Hi, I will be buying a Lassen Triple Threat from someone this week. But I have a question. Is it ok that the edges are visible when nested (see attached image). Doesn't the shell covers it completely? For my Cerberus set, its impossible to distinguish between a normal and the Cerberus morgan dollar. The edges just blend.
So, is it normal for a Triple Threat? Is it because of the magnetic shims? If you own a Triple Threat, please confirm. Thanks for your time and help. Click here to view attached image. |

Yes, that's quite normal for a Lassen 3t. I have the Morgan dollar version, but it looks very similar from the side. All three coins can be laid on a mat or shown on edge in a fan and you will not notice an appreciable difference in thickness. The Cerberus is three different coins so the difference in thickness isn't as important.

Ok so its possible to still use it for close up work?
Does schoolcraft's 3CM also show the edges? |

I have a 3CM Kennedy half and my problem with it is that the innermost coin is wafer thin and shouldn't be left on a mat or shown on edge. It has it's uses and is well made, but for me I prefer the Lassen.

Shakuni, if you have the newer Cerberus with the chinese coin, the inner 2 coins are not actual coins, I believe, but coins minted by Todd, himself. On a TT, there is no controlling the thickness of the coins.
Yes, the standard TT is perfectly good for close-up work. You work with it just as you would a standard shell as far as not allowing your audience to get a clear, steady glimpse of the edges.

I can also confirm that they look like this from the side. As Chessmann said, just don't let your audience get a clear uninterrupted look at the edges while it is nested.

E.g., not nearly as thin as a TUC insert. If I were to work just with the unexpanded shell and insert I don’t think anyone would notice a size difference at all. Thank you. Jim |

Is Roy Kueppers 3 and 4 nested coins comparable? Has anyone bought nested sets with only one or two shells shimmed?
WHAT IF you wake up tomorrow with ONLY the things that you THANK GOD for today?

My Lassen's inner coin is not that different.

Interesting.
I just went and looked at my Morgan dollar Triple Threat, and the coverage is significantly better. If you look at the photo of the half dollar TT above, and take away the lowest/smallest coin, that's what the Morgan TT looks like - you can't really even see the coin insert. For some reason, it must be more difficult to get good coverage on the half.

@Chessmann
Hi Sir, Thanks for the input. I should get a morgan TT then... |

Hi Chessmann, be aware that on the dollar size Triple Threat the innermost coin is THINNER than normal, and nests right up into the shell a bit more. Im not sure if this is the case on the half dollar version.
