Hey Shawn - awesome routine! Thank you so much for sharing this. Then again, that is what you do best - share! I can attest to that after the CAMJAM in Niagara Falls!!
I also enjoyed Stephen's routine, especially after watching the DVD that comes with the wallets. Once you watch the DVD and listen to Stephen's thoughts on his routine, I am sure that those of you who speak poorly of his routine will change your thoughts. The most important thing here is not to conjure up negative thoughts about this trick, rather, it is to conjure up some thoughts on how to make this gem work for you. That may mean performing this completly different from Stephen's routine -or Shawn's routine for that matter. Shawn has provided us with a fabulous example of how he made these three little wallets all his own. In the process, he took some of this, that and the other thing and he created his own gem!! I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product from Palmer Magic. Then again, I hope people do not buy this! Sorry Shawn - I really do hope that you sell this product by the bucket load. Thanks Stephen so much for your willingness to share this gem with the magic fraternity. Thank you Shawn for your vision and hard work in the production of I Hate Kids. The product is first class. Do not be fooled by the title - this is NOT a negative routine!! That is why so many working Pro's either perform this now, or will in the near future! Danny |

I have a question for anyone who has this already.
Do the wallets come with the numbers on? If so, do you think it's possible to remove the numbers? Thanks Steve |

The wallets are not numbered.
Adhesive numbers , purchased separately, are optional, but match the routine. |

Hi,
Thanks JR, Hannibal and Michael for your comments. Three awesome performers and great guys too. Stephen Young, rjs is right the numbers are not included. I thought long and hard on this before making that decision. Stephen always uses the numbers and I felt it might inhibit the creative process for others. Stephen does explain about how and where to get the numbers for those that want them and I am always just an email away to help those that have issues finding a source. On the DVD Stephen tells a great routine by Michael Finney using letters. I have already read one review that wished they were included, so it was great to see you asking the opposite... Danny, magic.99 thanks for the glowing review and input too. I too secretly wanted to keep the routine all to myself... -shawn |

Mine just came in, and wow, am I impressed. The expression on the boy's face is fine when you see it in a larger video, and Stephen explains all the psychology.
It fits my presentation style, and I imagine it will be going into both my family and kid shows. With Shawn's Alt. Presentation it can easily go int my adult show and walk around. Stephen, my hat is off to you! Plays big, pack small, easy methods, high quality props . . . what more can one ask for? This is not just a worker, but a great worker. |

Mine are on the way, can't wait to get them.
I'm glad the numbers are not on them, much easier to add numbers or letters/words if you want them then to remove them if you don't want them and you could even switch for different presentations. One thing that seems odd to me is that in the promotional trailer, he goes back to his case before revealing what is in the other purses. Based on what has been discussed, I know he's not switching out the purses, so it just seemed odd. |

Hi barts185, I could not agree more. There was no reason to go back, but I think he just wanted to drop the one purse after it was empty. No need and in fact it is best not to ever go anywhere once the first one is picked. I only had the one piece of video footage available when I created the trailer, so I made the big decision to use it regardless. I know you will find this to be a real worker. I used to do another five minute piece on the cruise ships that required me to have an extra long case for travel, but by replacing that trick with this one, I now have a normal size suitcase, no hassles at the airport, a better routine and a less sore back! ha.

Shawn,
I've played with it a bit and presented it a few times at this point and agree that this is a great worker. I know that packs small plays big seems to be an overused phrase anymore, but this really does. Can also be used for passing out any sort of customized contact info. A bill or coin that's presented as the thing for which the spectator is searching. They wind up with your contact info. Thanks, Bart |

I guess I am a little biased because I know Stephen through one of the smaller conventions we have in Kentucky, the Unconventional Magic Convention. I am surprised by the reactions on here as well. Do you hold the same contempt for Al Flosso doing his brilliant miser's dream routine? He picks on the kid all through his video, and the boy is grinning through every bit of it.
This is good clean fun that everyone realizes is a joke, even the kids. Stephen kills with his material here. Anytime I have seen Stephen perform with kids in person the kids are having the most fun of anyone in the audience. For the record, I am not a fan at all of offensive magic. I don't do blue material. I cringe at some of the big name busker's 'jokes.' And I have no problem with the feigned 'abuse' portrayed in this presentation.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.

Does Stephen have a website with magic products for sale? I saw his main site but no link to a shop.

Shomemagic,
No Stephen Bargatze does have a website but he does not sell any notes or products on it. He is a professional magician, and to busy working all the time. He does not even show any promo material except to known hiring clients. That website is private. |

From a marketing perspective, this is the most inadequately named really good product I have bought in some time.
Yes, one can adapt it effectively for children, even an approach that makes some fun at their expense. But it is essentially a very compact Bank Night prop and effect that can be effectively adapted to ANY audience. Let us remember this rare moment in the history of magic and mentalism: an effect that is better than advertised and much better than its name. George |

I'll be adapting this for walk-around with an adult audience. Looks like I'll be having fun with this one. The purses are really well-made. If you have iCandy, the purses are perfect to perform the "Ring to Purse" routine found on that DVD.

I performed a family friendly version of I Hate Kids this past summer at a major fair for 14 nights in a row - it killed every night! I created my own routine, with some help from Shawn Farquhar, and it got lots of laughs, and best of all, a really happy kid at the end of the routine!

I just bought it and love Stephen Bargatze's performance. My character is not as rough generally but I'll have to figure out the right delivery for me. I'm a risk taker but wouldn't approach it quite like he does. He reminds me of Chris Capehart.

For those of you that have this trick. Do any of you use the numbers on the wallets or do you leave them blank? I'd also appreciate your thoughts on why you do or don't have them labeled.

Well, they are identical. So, if they aren't different in any way, you can't do any of the "psychological" part of the routine. It's just chance. and even you wouldn't be able to tell where it is. and what are the logistics of you holding them, they choose one, then you opening it and they can tell it is 100% the one they picked? If you want to leave them blank, you should look into Larry Becker's routines.
