Hey all,
I thought I'd share this story with you all. It actually happened in September, but it affected the way I look at my magic and life in general. I got into magic, but I did it mostly as a hobby. I rarely showed anybody 'cause I looked at it as I was doing it for me and never really cared to do it for anybody unless they asked. Then I was kind of solemn about it. Then one of my close friends asked me to show her some stuff, so I did. And she went BALLISTIC!!. So after that she went around telling everybody how cool the magic I showed her was. I got pretty upset about it and in the heat of the argument she told me this, and I remember it clearly: "You have a gift that not too many people have, and that's that you can make people think, even if it's for only a minute, that the impossible is possible." And at the time I just thought she was saying that to get me to agree with her. That was a Wednesday night. Come Saturday morning about 2:00 AM, I got a phone call from a friend telling me that Karrie (my friend's name) was killed in a motorcycle accident earlier that evening. Come Sunday at church (we were both very active in the youth group as counselors), I was sitting with a bunch of kids all sharing stories about her, when one of the kids asked why she was raving about my magic, when none of them had ever seen it. So I thought that just once I would show them. I went to my car and got a deck of cards, and what happened next I only wish she could have only been there to see. By the time I was done there must have been 20 people around me and from that moment on I saw what magic really does to people. I've been performing nonstop ever since and I know she's in heaven saying, "I told you so." Just thought I would share that with you guys. Some might not care, but I think we all have stories that changed our views on why we do what we do. |

Great story, Twitch. Reading your post gave me a lump in my throat.
I would like to say that I have a story like yours to share, but I don't really think I do. However, like you, what keeps me inspired is performing for people, giving them a few minutes to forget their troubles, and bringing them a moment of wonder. Karrie made a good point: we magicians do have the potential to make the impossible seem possible. Thanks for sharing. Emily Belleranti

Now, THAT is magic. Not what was being done with the cards in your hand, but what was being done within the spaces between two friends. I know it's hard for you that she's gone, but I'm sure you now see that through you, what she set into motion will stay in motion. Keep it up, amigo.

That was inspirational.
Never stop entertaining people Twitch. If it's your gift always enjoy it so others can too.

You truly do have a gift....it's amazing how magic can be used to affect people in the greatest of ways. I'm glad to hear that there are true magicians here...ones that do magic for the right reasons and represent what a magician should be. Keep up the great magic my friend.

Twitch, your story hit me really hard, and my eyes are wet now.
I would guess that girl had a purpose in life, and she fullfilled it just before she passed. Her purpose was to open your eyes to your gift, so that you can share it with thousands of others. Your gift is the gift of creating wonder, and you need to share it where ever you go. Have you considered dedicating your performances or your magic in general to her in loving memory? The saddest thing of all to me is the fact that no matter how wonderful our magic is, it can't save people from horrible fate. This young girl sounds like she was full of life, hope, dreams. And now for the first time she had discovered something new (your magic) that could have brought her cheer for years to come. And then, to have it all taken away so abruptly,..well, it is just so very difficult for me to grasp. You see I too had a friend taken away in an accident, and like your friend, he had everything to look forward to. Your story touches my heart in a very deep place.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
