If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Some will, some won't. It utterly undermines professional teachers, however.

80% of military service is training. Do vets get lots of experience. But how well that translates into a school setting is largely dependent upon the individual.

Might be a good idea. This may be one way to get discipline back into the classroom Smile .

The stated goal of education is to create "self=motivated, life time learners" while the goal of military training is to strip away all individuality so that a person will mindlessly follow orders.

I doubt the transition can be made in two years -- especially given life-time PTSD issues.

However, as it appears that the objective of modern education is to create lifetime consumers of drivel -- this may be right on line.

Thus, they may make good "instructors" -- "teacher" is in doubt.

Two years may be sufficient training, but there are some important details.

1. What does that two years' training consist of?
2. What is the training/educational background of the recruits?
3. What kind of teaching do you expect them to do?

Because of my age, a number of my teachers were WWII vets. As I recall, their discipline was no different than anyone else's. They had university degrees in their subject matter; I'm not sure what level of pedagogical training they had on top of that.

I do agree with tomsk192 that this is a potentially harmful assault on professional teachers. But I don't think that it would be impossible (or even that difficult) to make such a program successful.

I wonder if this is ONLY for officer's who completed college or does it apply to ALL Military Troops.

My Sister-In-Law is a school Teacher and she has to go back to school to upgrade her degree's every few years. We need dedicated Teacher's who want to teach and are willing to make the sacrifices it takes to be a good teacher. I hope the Teacher Troops have to comply to the same rules as civillian teacher's do today, or else this IS a slap in the face to teacher's everywhere.
