With the Ganzfeld experiment, you cut a ping pong ball in half, place the two halves over each eye, and listen to radio white noise from headphones.
After half an hour, you should start hallucinating. Apparrantly you can have a sender & receiver set up in such a way to guide the receiver through. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

What does this have to do with hypnosis, and even more so entertainment?

It works, in the sense that it facilitates hallucination. But don't expect any useful information to come through. Anything generated will come from your own head.
It is also of little use to a stage hypnotist, unless you are going to set up your volunteers with goggles and ear pieces. When I was young and believed in hypnosis I thought that might be a good idea. But now I am older and wiser I know there are easier ways to get your volunteers under control.

Ive spent a fair amount of time in the past taking an interest in hypnotism (though I don't perform it), and I am interested in how the mind can be manipulated. Perhaps I could have put it in off topic, but then most hypnotists like to frequent this forum.

Check out The Ganzfeld Experiment by Paul Voodini. All done for real and thoroughly entertaining. Three people sit blindfolded, they are the receivers. Three others choose a postcard and as they listen to white noise attempt to send the image to the blindfolded peeps.
I can see how it would dovetail into a the right stage hypnosis act if it avoided the usual cliche approach. Anthony

Ganzfeld Experiments and other 'psychic phenomena' such as past life regression and remote viewing have *everything* to do with hypnosis. The same state of mind is induced to experience these effects as for comedy stage hypnosis. I have used all three (Ganzfeld, remote viewing, and past life regression) very successfully in an entertainment setting. With a little imagination it is entirely possible to turn such 'experiments' into entertaining centre pieces around which other routines and effects can be placed. I've written a couple of PDF books on them, but wouldn't want to be seen promoting them, plus they're quite expensive. Take a look if you're interested (see sig. and look for Midnight Side of the Mind).

Practised the Ganzfeld experiment back in the early 80's researching ESP and had some very good result's it is quite relaxing white noise or the sound of crashing waves on the seashore is nice, never experienced halucinations though.

So you're telling me you use white noise as part of a stage hypnosis show?

I think it would cool to do this...
In a steampunk kind of way. Gadgets and backstory (ESP, Cold War, remote viewing, Nazis, heroism) then the spec gets a thought or two right... What's not to like? Full theatrical approach with a spec no less... Wow, that would look cool! Derren Brown could pull this off onstage quite well methinks.

^^ Absolutely!
I originally used white noise but after a couple of events I experimented with other sound effects. The best I found was rain and rolling thunder that worked well with the images I was having broadcast. To clarify, this wasn't part of a stage hypnosis show in a 'eat onions and have sex with a chair' kind of way (not that there's anything wrong with that kind of show), this was a demo as part of an evening of 'experiments in telepathy and esp'.
