Whats the best option in your opinion
I plan on buying this illusion soon! but with some question about $$$$ this illusion from pro builders $8000 from ali only $2000 http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Pierced-I......432.html and this one aswell http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/......479.html I have the option of building it for around $500 but I am not waisting $8000 when ali seems to be offering a better looking one for 2000! so my options as I see it build my own knowing it will take a lot of time to make it look to the level I want it to or buy it from Ali a china supplier and hope for the best? |

This illusion MUST be built by a known builder if you want any sort of quality. Others will chime in here, I'm sure, but you do NOT want to scrimp on this particular illusion. The assistants may fall off or the whole unit can topple - so many horror stories that I've heard from poor builds. It's just not worth it - be safe, be consistent, be good...you don't have a choice but to go to a top builder for this prop - in my opinion.
Other props, you may be able to save a buck...but not on this one. Don't be cheap here!! I'm told most of the lower end models barely work and if you want something that works only half the time, then that's your choice...but that's what you will be looking at if you go cheap. These are very tough to build.

Any time I see such a huge price discrepancy, two things come to mind
1) Knock-Off 2) Crap quality Not sure if either apply here...but I would be seriously leery of the cheaper one. Mike

Yes it is a risk I understand that but I am looking for a review on this one from ali, saying its **** and knowing its **** are two different things
but I also work with life time engineers who can build this from scratch but why when I can buy this one and have my engineers sertify the trick and fix the bugs if there are any? and besides ive spent thousands into pro builders and didn't get as great qulaity as I would of expected especialy when spending as much as new car would cost so its always a gamble! but does anyone know anything about this product http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Pierced-I......432.html |

Nor know the products you mention, nor want to
If you don't mind possibly injuring your assistant's back, then go for any of them! (I wouldn't like to be in her shoes ...) |

Did you read the other recent thread where someone talked about their experience with buying magic from aliexpress.com? Or are you just ignoring the lesson to be learned?

There are certain illusions that should always be bought from experienced builders. At the top of that list are the Table of Death (and any variants), and Impaled/Pierced. There's just too many things that can go wrong with these props that might actually cause serious injury.
Plus, knock-offs harm the builders and designers who work very hard to deliver quality product. You get what you pay for.

Although this illusion is in the Public Domain, I would highly recommend you look at buying one from someone who has experience in building this prop. The key to this is the h*****s, all must be built with safety for your assistant, or yourself if you use it yourself. As said above this is not an illusion to scrimp on. Building yourself is an option, but proper engineering and welding, plus the quality of steel used. I find it very hard to believe anyone could build this for $500.00 The labor work involved is incredible, the steel costs, welding, chrome work ect.
I every year, take my sword and h******n** in for xrays looking for microscopic cracks. Mendoza built mine and I love it!!

I have heard way too many horror stories of self-built and cheaper versions causing back injuries. I too want to get my hands on an impaled at some point, but I wouldn't consider anything that wasn't a Bill Smith build. He's built so many that he has it down to a science. The thing to remember is that you are being dropped very quickly while arched over backward. It just has to be perfect.

Owens, Mendoza, are also great. I feel Mendoza has the best model on the market.
