Any thoughts or ideas on this? A few of the panels are a little off kilter and we are having some difficulty in keeping the panels up throughout the performance. I know I can send it back to get worked on, but I have too busy a schedule to take it out of the program right now. Just looking to see if there were any home remedy's out there. Also, the Velcro sucks. I end up replacing it each season, but have any of you experimented with magnets? Thanks for any input.

Simple gaff tape for the box. It's a fairly quick, easy job.
I've always stuck with the velcro, but I know some people use magnets.
It's all in the reflexes.

Gaff tape for the hinges. And in order for the velcro to stay, you should contact cement it with DAP contact cement, the adhesive on the self adhesive velcro won't last. Also don't buy the non flammable DAP in the green bottle, buy the red label one. You should be able to find a small bottle of it in home stores in the tape/Glue aisle. It comes with a brush in the cap.

Are you using a new girl in your act?
The reason I ask.. Is because sometimes a new girl can cause problems.. Last night I had to use a different girl for the origami because my main girl for that illusion went to a wedding. We have 4 shows with the back up girl.. Stepping in and out of the box.. she caused some of the panels to start to fall a bit early.. I got thru it.. Thanks I put new Velcro on it from the 3-m the stick on kind works great with no glue needed. Some people use magnets.. Magnet to magnet.. The box is aluminum or you could do Magnet to box.. Taylor

If you send out a mass text message to all your contacts, someone is bound to answer you, and they'll be able to re-tape it for you.

Gaff tape is good but you have to buy the good stuff. I bought mine from a music shop as the one that I bought at a hardware store kept pealing. The adhesive on the tape was not good enough to hold the weight and the frequent movement on the panel.

Years ago I heard a rumor that Copperfield's Origami Box had to be re-taped every week! I kinda find that hard to believe.

Yes, you need to make sure that you use a vendor that guarantees it is real gaff tape, not the cheaper stuff. Kinda hard to find anymore...anyone have a online source? real earth magnets are the best way to replace the velcro

Replacing all velcro with magnets very risky. I would not recomend it. That beeing said, I have actually done this on the two larger side plates using nd-magnets (really strong ones)and attaching thin metal plate on the inside of the box. I have not been successful however in replacing the other pieces of velcro as it will not always hold up when the girl steps in and out of the box. If someone has a good way of doing this, please let me know.

Forgot to add that I use the matte gaffer tape from http://www.pearlpaint.com.
That's the gaffer brand that the builder (Wellington) supplied and I find it has the best adhesive. |
