Not around here. Everything is open regular hours on Easter. Quote:
Which is why it is a minor holiday. I know Jews, Muslims and Atheists that celebrate Christmas (and Cinco de Mayo). But none of them celebrate Easter, apart from biting the ears off of a chocolate bunny. Quote:
Also lets not forget the New York Easter parade. Just saying. Never heard of it. I knew the Whitehouse still had an Easter Egg roll. But was unaware that the Big Apple had an Easter Parade. Probably an East Coast thing.

So apart from the occasional Easter egg hunt or gifting of a chocolate bunny it goes uncelebrated by those not of the Christian belief system. Unlike Halloween you don't see special stores open up that sell Easter supplies and decorations. There aren't big Easter Day Sales, Easter Tree lots or fireworks stands don't start springing up as the day approaches. So compared to Xmas, Halloween, The 4th of July, Fathers Day, Mothers Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day it is a minor holiday.

In fact mothers day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants. Just great for those mothers who are waitresses. Besides being a federal holiday or not does not make it something major or minor. I believe Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday and not that many people celebrate it as compared to Easter. We can go on and on but I don't know why. Lets just say it is a Christian big deal and leave it go at that. No one else cares about it but us Christians. So if I ever see you on Easter and say to you "Happy Easter" I apologize in advance.

Payne, no wonder you never heard about it. The NY City Easter Parade, btw, is today far from a religious celebration. It is about fashion as much as anything. The parade is mostly made up of people wearing funny hats or costumes who decide to walk in the street. FWIW, for several years NY City has also had a Cinco de Mayo day parade. I wonder which NYC parade is larger, today?

New York's Easter Parade has always (at least as long as I can remember) been primarily about fashion.

Yes- But I think I've milked this Easter schtick for all it's worth, so here's hoping that eventually we'll find something else we agree upon.
