Well, I know I said I wouldn't order it because of the duplication of several other effects I already own. (NFW, crunch, ten, etc, ad infinitum, but I didn't keep my word. I ordered it due to Penguins flat pack deal.
So, we shall see what we shall see.

OK, here's my initial feeling on ACE. Richard's Super Cards DVD was a big project with over 20 tricks to it. The tricks were easy because of the gaff, but It wasn't exactly a beginners DVD because experience was needed to perform the tricks properly ( much of the magic takes place in the spectators hands and that requires audience management ).
ACE is a full blown course in how to handle these gaffs and perform the tricks. This is for beginners and seasoned performers. This is a steal at $19.99 This was money well spent for me because there are two routines that I think are two of the the best. Five change: 2 kings change with 2 jokers and then change to the 4 aces. They should put this up as a trailer because it's stunning. The description doesn't come close to the visuals on this. In their hands: Involves 3 people. 4 jokers change to 4 aces. This is great for a group. Everyone gets a joker, including the performer and....everyone now has an ace. |

I'm making up my own version using hand drawn/sketchy looking imagery instead of jokers...then they all change...

I think everyone is going to love this. Richard didn't just put some great routines together, but made this into a mini course on performing with these gaff(s). You get PROFESSIONAL performance tips from one of the best sleight of hand artists on the scene today to make it all flow smoothly in performance.
Zombie Magic TIP: Hobbyists buy "most" of the new magic releases. And we tend to perform for friends, family, classmates, etc. Because they know us, they tend not to not always respect the invisible performance wall and when cards change in their hands, they are so shocked, they look for explanations ( examining the cards/props ). Well..the good thing is that the cards in their hands can be examined. But, it's a good idea to give their brains somewhere to go. Have the jokers that vanished re-appear elsewhere. If you use Bob Sheets' idea of carrying packet tricks in a flattened card case, have 4 extra jokers inside. When the cards change, have them open the card case and find the jokers. Just say "and if we have the aces, the jokers had to go somewhere". Have them open the card case. Many times they will connect the invisible dots for you and say "I didn't even see you switch them". Isn't magic fun? *If you perform 5 Change, have 2 kings and 2 jokers in the box;-) You're not running when not being chased. Your'e playing "chess" and thinking several moves ahead. Coin guys know this ruse of vanishing a coin and before they look to the logical place ( you're other hand ) you show it re-appaeared elsewhere ( under a card, salt shaker, etc. ) *Or you can use a mini himber/z fold wallet to hold your cards. Remove the cards and do the magic. When you open the wallet...BAMF...the other cards are now inside. |

The new leather switch wallet being sold by Fearson, which I previously reviewed here, would fit the bill perfectly here.

I plan on performing this A LOT. I use to perform "10" A LOT as well.
I wound up having to buy multiple sets of 10 cards, but after a while I got tired of paying full price, just to get replacement cards. I then started using the cards mentioned on Richard's Super Card DVD as a cheaper replacement. Hopefully there will be replacement cards available on Richard's web site eventually, as he stated on the DVD. There is no mention of them on the web site as of now. Great trick.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

Received 'Ace' today from freepostmagic.co.uk. The little'un is sleeping out, the Mrs is fast asleep and I'm settling down with a few cold beers to watch it now. If I stay sober enough I'll post my thoughts later

I received mine last night and it is fantastic! This checks off a lot of what I look for in a magic effect: it is super visual, the magic happens in the spectators hands, an instant reset and requires minimal pocket space! The teaching is exactly what you would expect from a magician of this caliper - clear, concise, and insightful. The price is great for everything you can learn from this effect. I can't wait to get home from work tonight and practice this trick and write my script. Clearly one of this year's best releases.

If you are considering using a wallet in this routine a Horwitz wallet would be great
