I'm not sure if this is product placement or good, old-fashined, venom spitting. |

The Pat Page version that the YouTube clips refer to is Pat's spin on the original. I never said it was the same. It is BASED on Jimmy Roger's routine 'I'll Start Again'. The prop itself makes Sanders paddle look like it's dropped out of a Christmas cracker. Now we come onto Mr. Sander's release. First and foremost, plastic paddles have been around, as stated to the best of my knowledge, since 1975. Reiss Magic released a box of paddles; one of which was blank for you to write on/wipe off. It was even made of white plastic. Now, watching Sanders routine, the ONLY difference I can see between this and Jimmy Rogers original is that the bat was originally wooden, and shaped like a cricket bat. You drew lines in chalk to represent cricket wickets. In the Sanders version, he's using a marker and stars. Are you telling me, in all honesty, that this makes it a different trick? No venom spitting this end old chap. I just despise anyone in magic claiming originality for something that clearly isn't their own creation. And when due credit isn't given, it makes the matter even worse.

Just to add, I'd love to hear Mr. Sander's spin on matters.
I doubt that I ever will.

While I believe in integrity, we can't cry foul on every re-invention that takes place. With your line of thinking, should the inventor of the paddle move be furious that so many inventions have been created that utilize this move? Did Jimmy Rogers credit the inventor or claim originality? I've never seen anyone combine spongeballs with a paddle, nor have I ever seen a routine with spectator's names on a paddle. Is that where the originality is? The "X" routine is credited. |

Merc man off on one again! Lol. Surely by making the prop available its worth bringing out I have ordered one so I will check for credits etc.
Just as an aside, Sanders hasn't claimed this as his, he is crediting another magician. Its just his company that's released it. |

Robvs,
I don't disagree with you, nor anyone else. You are more than entitled to your point of view. Suffice to say, if you (or anyone else for that matter) wants to buy a re-cycled piece of plastic tat, then go for it. My main point ISN'T about the prop so much as the actual routine. At the end of the day, Sanders has his name to it. And it ISN'T his routine, nor the suppliers, to market. Seriously, why is that point so difficult to understand My point still holds true. Did Sanders, and/or the manufacturer approach Kaymar Magic in the first instance, to actually get permission to market it? Did Sanders, and/or the manufacturer, give any acknowledgement to Jimmy Rogers for creating the routine in the first instance? Hopefully, Mr. Sanders will come on here and respond in order to put the record straight.

I have the lets start over dry erase paddle.Shortly after I got it it got scratched. Now both sides do not look the same.rendering it unusable because it is dark under the white.
Richard Sanders plastic paddle could simply be sanded if needed, but being plastic it is white all the way through so I doubt it would be nacassary.this is like comparing Formica and Corian ,both are counter tops one is much more durable. Sanders paddle is simply more durable than dry erase board. He has added value to the prop. It has the same purpose but is made of different material, just like the dry erase paddle was made of diffrent material than the blackboard paddle. Why no out cry over the lets start over paddle using the idea of the blackboard paddle? Both are erasable both can do the same routines. I do not know about any of these crediting issues for the afore mentioned paddles. |
