Is anyone kind enough here to list down the trick list for each of Max Maven's VideoMind dvd's
and if you won't mind, write a brief review or opinions on this series. (like how impromptu or how fullproof can some of the mental effects be, etc) Thanks! |

Go to any magic product site and read it there. then use the search function to answer your other questions. there are numerous posts on this topic in Penny for your Thoughts, this section and Inner Thoughts. and to answer your final question...no not all the routines are full proof. that is what separates a mentalist from a magician, a magician never wants to fail while a mentalist undoubtably does at one point or another, but it is part of the art. I suggest getting 13 steps to mentalism before buying this series and think about whether you really want to do this stuff.

David,
Try this: http://murphysmagicsupplies.com/catalog/......ind.html They list each effect along with an explanation. I have all three tapes in the series and while it's been awhile since I viewed them, my hands down favorite is Volume 2 - Close-Up Mentalism. I bought it when another magician did Changeling for me which uses a few coins and a business card. Truly an impromtu trick. And it turned out that was one of the weaker effects (in my opinion) on the tape which goes to show that the material is really good. Max also goes into detail on each of the effects of various "outs" to use if something goes wrong, which lessens the chance of failure. If you want to do mentalism, you can't go wrong with this series. If you don't want to commit to buying all three tapes, my suggestion is to get Volume 2. Hope this helps. |

For what it's worth you can't go wrong with this purchase. It's really top notch material, in my opinion.

I have all three of the vids and I did enjoy them but I don't think they even come close to comparing to my Richard Osterlind DVD. I only have volume one, but it is awesome. It's definitely one of the best purchases I've made in awhile.
However, if you're going to go with Max Maven my favorite effect was Mockingbird. It fooled me badly. I'm not sure but I think it is on the Parlour video.
Check out my Main Event project (DVD or Download).

Contimental has been discussed before, please do a search in this forum and Inner Thoughts. It's not foolproof, and requires considerable acting talent to pull off convincingly. I wouldn't start off using this routine until you feel at ease performing mentalism. A nice effect on the tapes that might be more suitable is called Kurotsoke--performer divines which of five participants has chosen a black stone. All the Best, Jack Shalom

I agree that these videos are very good. You'll find a lot you can enjoy and use here.
What's really interesting, is the indepth discussion and historic background to each and every routine, found in the explanations, I use/have used several of the routines and I like them. Be aware of though that several of the routines are build up around Max Maven's special personality. You must be prepared to alter and modidy them to get the most out of them. Sven

Isn't it Positive-Negative?
Anyway - I second the opinions above - well worth the money. As mentioned, he has a very distinctive style. I got most value out of seeing the subtleties of how he constructs his routines and the thinking behind them. |

I own the stage dvd and absolutely loved it! Contimental and Khan Artist were my favourites. I have to say though, I really hate the routine descriptions LL publishing has put on the backs of the covers.
I am thinking of purchasing the palour dvd. However, can someone tell me what their favourite routine was and/or give a more detailed description of these effects. I'm not fishing for methods, I would just like to know what the audience sees. 1.Devine Write 2. Kurotsuke Many thanks! Xavier. |

All I can say is Phil should release another few more volumes. Two thumbs up.

I believe this material is pretty good. However there is nothing new for those who have read some good mental books. What REALLY makes these tricks miracles is Max himself. So I doubt an average performer can obtain same reactions.
I like them but I don't perform any of the effects. Sincerely. Academy |

The volume on parlor mentalism is my favoite. I perform the most items from that one than the others. But each volume is of value and will give you a lot of inspiration.

I was thinking about buying the close-up and parlor mentalism ones, but are most or all of these based on statistics?

No dj, not all based on statistics. But depends on what you mean by statistics; mag***** cho***?
except for one, which is Positive Negative the rest hv proper methodologies to it. But even if so, I perform Positive Negative all the time, and a lot of people hv different handlings of their own, so really it is not statistical to me. |
