This list was on numerous sections of the Café in street magic, kids magic shows, party shows, dove shows etc..
So I thought it would be fun if everyone can share the illusions he does on his show and the order, epically its the grand illusion section so yeah. |

I'm not an illusionist, but quite often I close with either the chair suspension (kids) or the head chopper (adults).

I perform a 60 minute fun show for school events that consists of: Magic Drawing Board, Coin Tray, Fraidy Kat Rabbit, Linking Rings, Torn and Restored Newspaper, Bill Change, Guillotine, Square Circle production routine, Clatter Box (with comedy wands), and Floating Child. So, there are 2 stage illusions in that show, along with a variety of stage magic. This is one of the many shows that I offer to a variety of customers.
I currently perform my show solo, but I have worked with assistants in the past. Over the years, I've had other illusions in my show, too. Sword Basket, Sub Trunk, Stocks of Zanzibar, Santa Claus Appearance, etc. - Donald

AmrKhaled,
Just a stupid question, but it would be very interesting to know : Why are you asking this ? What is the purpose, the reason ? Oliver. |
MagicalFreak3 Loyal user 222 Posts |
Mr. Oliver, its nothing of personal gain for me, I thought It would be fun to see other what other magicians shows consist of and others to see mine and talk about the illusions performed & the mixture of different illusions on the show . Besides its done in a lot of sections here on the Café, I don't see why this should be a problem for you.

Because we know you're just starting out doing illusion shows Amr...
It seems you might want to copy others. If you're not, then it's all good.

AmrKhaled,
Not to be harsh, but I agree with the statement of Pakar Ilusi and suggest you to read the threads that Donald has joined in his post aswell. Why did I asked you this "stupid" question ? Because I have the same feeling as Pakar Ilusi, due to all the other topics that you opened in this section and others. To answer your question, I will only copy the statement of someone else who is well known here on the Café, Kyle Peron. In a silimar topic in the "The little Darlings" section he said the following : "I do not mean to be a downer or to cause any problems. However, I find listing what your favorite opener is, is kind of like asking what car do you drive. It does not mean anything unless you know the reason behind it or even the style of the person or his or her character. Without reasoning, this simply becomes a list of what tricks people like. Now I know many of you (or I at least hope all of you) do not perform "tricks" at kid's shows. You perform routines that entertain. If that is the case then the power and learning of this thread would be much better if people started giving not only the trick they do but the reasoning behind why it works for THEM. What is it that you do that makes it work for you so well? Do you use it as a warm up or to teach the kids how to react? What is your character like and how does this effect work in your routine? Answers in this fashion start to get us thinking beyond a list of tricks and get folks to understand what it is that entertains." So unless you know the how and specially the why it won't bring you anything to just have an order of effects or routines seen by our audiences. What works for us, will not work for you aswell. Everything depends on so many things : Stage character or persona, the stories behind it etc... We all went through trials and errors and find a way to put our shows together that satisfies ourselfs and entertains our audiences. So it's really a personal work to put a show together. Since you seem to be a huge David Copperfield fan, watch his TV shows and try to think about what could be the reason why he put this illusions in his shows and their particular order. If you wish to put an illusion show together I suggest you to read a very interesting book written recently by our compere Duane Laflin, called "On Stage with Illusions". It'll give you a very good insight in this business. Of course there're a lot of other books and DVDs that treat this subject. Good luck, Oliver. |

Pakar Ilusi are you serious ? You seriously have got some issues...that when Im asking a normal question of what illusions you perform in your show you have to turn this into making me some sort of fraud and continue to try the attack on me like your posts on other threads, you make me sick. If you don't have anything better to say, please save your suspicions and bashes, thank you !

You didn't just ask for what illusions we perform, you specificallly asked for a list of our illusions and even the order of the of the illusions. In other words, tell me what your show is.

Pakar has a good point......"everything in due time".
Take your time to build friendships and trust on this site. We are here to help each other but we've all been around long enough to see overly eager newbies who are trying to find shortcuts to success. (I'm not suggesting this is you). We all wish you good luck in your show construction. The journey is half the fun (maybe even more than half). Carrington |

Ok....cool your jets.
No insulting intended and thus don't read into it. Respect is earned, not given. We're glad to have new members. Like I said in my earlier post, take your time and build friendships and trust. I think we all built some suspicions by the recent posting where it appears you had invested in knockoff illusions. By your request for instructions (that apparently weren't included with your investment), many interpreted that you're a bit eager at any cost. Hang in there.....your above routine looks good. All the best. Carrington |

Some great advice given here. Duane laflins book is great. also suggest the penndragons DVDs on illusions.
being that you are asking about illusions specifically I got to tell you that I too agree that just listing what I do wont really help any one. the illusions I perform I perform for many reasons. some were purchased because they were all I could afford, some because I just loved that illusion, while others were a perfect fit for an idea I had. my stage illusion show consist of both grand illusions and "filler" effects such as audience participation type routines as well as several solo grand effects. some of the illusions I perform are sub trunk, spiker, and twister and a few others. it has taken years for me to find the right illusions that work for my show. I have owned many others and learned that they were not the best choice for me. I mention that as some times we see some thing and get excited and jump in before we do the research on that illusion. how will it travel, does it break down, what are the viewing limitations, is it worth the cost of the illusion for 90 seconds on stage? can I get 2 minutes out of it and still have a solid routine? can my assistant fit the box? many times I have watched performers fill 5 minutes with an illusion and after watching that I think to myself "that would be a great 2 minute illusion". I myself learned that one of my routines became so much stronger after I knocked almost 80 seconds off of the routine. I got more wow from the audience. so all that being said, you do indeed need to take your time and consider all the options with what ever illusion you get and you will be glad you did and will be able to enjoy the illusion for years to come. sam

There are also books that detail shows of the past masters. Those are really good to study. And then there is the great Illusion Show Know How book.
