Does anyone here pitch Sv decks while sitting? I have a back problem that means I can't stand for more than about 4-5 minutes at a time, but my itch to pitch is reaching a point where I really need to do it.
I feel like the mobility of being on your feet, even if you're mostly staying in one spot, would be really helpful for pitching. So I'm wondering if anyone here has had success from a seated position (or knows someone like that)? Jay

Give it a try and see how it works out for you. I don't see why it would be a problem as long as you're sitting high enough. Forget the folding chair and a little TV tray. Get a directors chair and a high table and go "pitch!"

"...as long as you're sitting high enough."
Ah, yeah, that makes sense. In my head I was sitting low looking up at people, and my image of that seemed really awkward. Jay

As long as you are going to be seated might as well put on a show (short one) using all those sit down lapping moves that are rarely used now days.

I use a bar stool. And my table is raised maybe 6-8" above a normal table. However, when I do the pitch, I'm not always sitting. Especially where I ask for a # between 1 and 10. I gotta stand up then to count the cards. Plus I feel I need to stand up for the close (TCM). So I'm up for probably the last half of the pitch.

I've worked flea markets for 3 decades.
Vendors who sit sell less. Don't know why... they just do. Maybe folks take you less seriously when you are "lounging" and they are not. Why should they come over to your table, when you won't even get up to greet them? Is it fair? Probably not but it doesn't change the fact. Vendors who sit sell less. |

I understand your feeling but I sit probably half the time. (I doubt I'd want to stand 8-9 hours--I'M OLD!!) BUT--sitting or standing, I DO call them in.
As I've stated, I use a bar stool and a taller than normal table. I also use Don's "Hey, we're gonna do a little magic, have a little fun...." if they are not looking at me. I do that because, since I'm not talking specifically to any one, I can't be accused of pulling them from some other vendor's table, even tho that is my intention. But if they are looking at me, I just say, "Hey, ya seen the magic cards" and point to the box of decks. It not only gets their attention but if they don't understand what I mean, they may start walking toward my table. Once they do, I've got 'em. So you might say I use my voice instead of standing up so much. Jon |

I've pitched everything from slicer dicers, shammies, and paint remover to Svengali cards, telescoping ladders, and dancing dinosaurs. You can pitch while you're standing up, you can pitch while you're sitting down. The key to success is when you work, work! Give it a good twelve hour day and you'll always make money.
