I've searched threw many posts on the forum, but didn't find a topic with the subject I'm now opening (maybe I over looked, sorry for that. But If you could, would you please post the url or location of that thread).
I'm considering to buy a 'card wallet', but because there are many kinds I don't know which one suites best for me (and probrably you don't either ). But can you give me some information about some wallets you know. I don't have to know the 'secret' of the wallet, but it's practical use and quality. Every help is appreciated.

I was asking the same question about a month ago. I ended up buying Steve Draun's Real Man's Wallet. Eventhough the routine that comes with the wallet is bad, the wallet itself is very good. I was considering a double kaps himber wallet from markburger.com (I think). But it was twice the money. I have heard that people are very impressed with this wallet as well.
The Real Man's Wallet is intended to be used as your everyday wallet. So I using it as such. I was wondering, how many others are doing the same, and how long does it take for the wallet to "wear out". Thanks |

I do not use the Real Man's wallet, but I do use a real man's wallet!
I just use my own normal, ungaffed leather pocket wallet. I cannot be caught and will never be suspected because it is my own. Not sure if I can think of any advantages of having a gaffed wallet, apart from using an ungaffed one is a limited as to which pocket you have it in for the effect. |

I use a BKM wallet and I really like it for the reason that you can do 2 cards to 2 different parts of the wallet at the same time. You also have a no palm version that you can do along with a loading syster for card to sealed elvelope.

I am a big fan of the Mullica wallet. No palming is required. I also feel as though if you want to use a palm, you can leave the wallet on the table and not hold the deck the whole time. I bought a BKM wallet from Magic Smith a few years back, and I have to say - it was very well made, but I don't believe that they are in business anymore!!

I have and use the real mans wallet as my actual wallet... for about 2 months...
One of the stitchings on the outside corner has come loose on about 3 or 4 stitchings, so there is a loop of black thread loose on one end.... other than that, it is in great condition! |

I have 2.
I have the Wakeman wallet which is a breast pocket type Balducci Wallet (I think). It is not a large wallet. It is considered small for it's type and is very well made. I have the Real-Man's wallet (normal hip type) which I use as a regular wallet. It appears normal because it basically is normal. My wife put it through the washing machine and it still works great. I have not seen but you should also consider Doug Malloy's wallet. It comes with a strong routine and knowing Malloy's products, it's probably quite well made. I shy away from any wallet that looks HUGE. I saw a video where a very well respected magician pulled out a wallet and put it on the table during an effect and it was practically the size of a binder. I laughed out loud. Talk about drawing attention to something. Geeezzzz.

I still love my Polaris wallet (bought it from A-Squared Productions, Andy Leviss and Andi Gladwin). It's a really small bi-fold back-pocket-type wallet. It's actually more like a credit card wallet. The greatest thing about it is that it's not much larger than a playing card. So it seems all the more impossible that the signed selection shows up in a zippered compartment in the wallet. A very snug fit, thus, astonishing to the spectator. Of all the effects I've done for annoyed-but-patient family and friends, card-to-wallet is the one that really raises eyebrows and gets the response, "Now THAT was good!"
Also, it is my everyday wallet. Jim |

Well thanks all for the help, really apreciated. I haven't bought a wallet, but looked more closely to my own (ungaffed) wallet. Don't have to say which post gave me the insight . But now I'm able to do the card in wallet effect with my own wallet. It's a little bigger than a playing card, so in my opinion a little more 'magic'. Thanks a lot all for the help, you saved me some bucks

I'm gonna pick up where Roger left off. An ungimmicked wallet is ideal, as it is more natural, but I am idelly looking for a wallet that looks normal, and has little palming. Money isn't an issure per se, but I don't want to drop tons of cash into it. I guess I'm looking for a starter card wallet, if that makes any sense. My buddy did this for some lay people a couple weeks ago, and the response it got was phenomenal. Any tips are appreciated folks. Malloy, Kaps, or Mullica? Lemme know...

What is the benefit of using a wallet instead of the pile of envelopes... or the index cards that are stapled all the way around?
I've seen both play very well. The stapled index cards thing really surprised folks too.

Magicwarehouse has a z-fold wallet that I use to hold my packet tricks and bills. They come in both hip and secretary(a tad larger than a checkbook)size/style. $20 and $27.50

A few posts have sung the virtues of an "ungimmicked" wallet. Let me say right off that they work and they can work very well. (I personally have used one on more than one occasion. However, they have been times when I did not have a card-to-wallet type wallet available.)
The implication is that the "ungimmicked" wallet is more magical somehow because the wallet is a REAL wallet. My question is, if the audience doesn't know it's not "real," what makes it more magical? Of course, if you are performing for magicians (who know of such things), that might be different. My opinion is, the best wallet (gimmicked or not) is the one that fits you, the situation, and the particular routine you are doing. Whether the wallet is a Balducci, Kaps, Mullica, Himber, BKM, Draun, or a Wal-Mart special is beside the point.

When you perform, the wallet is part of your costume. The quickest way to decide on a wallet is to get into character and treat the prop as if your character were buying a wallet. What do they like to carry?
From your shoes to the buttons on your shirt, it's all wardrobe and props. What you make of your costume is up to you.

Erik,
I agree people should use what fits them in terms of their ability, presentation, appearance etc. I choose to use a normal ungaffed wallet because I can. It looks more realistic than a lot of gaffed ones; it is a regular sized leather one rather than a huge jacket wallet. It also saves me the expense of forking out for a gaffed wallet. Lastly, the fact that is not gaffed is prefarable, simply for method protection i.e. I don't have to worry about people picking it up or looking through it. The method required is no more difficult than that required by the average gaffed wallet. |

I recently acquired Doug Malloy´s Hip Pocket Card to Wallet. I am very pleased with it. It uses the Kaps system. It comes with Malloy´s routine on video, which I haven´t had a chance to look at yet but looks excellent.
The wallet is VERY nice. I will be using it as my "dressy" (jacket or suit) wallet for years to come, although I could use it every day. I was sold on the video performance which you can view on this very site. Good luck.

Another strong vote for the Mullica wallet. Particularly when used with Eugene Burger's routine, and David Parr's subtlties. Very strong.

Mullica is very strong. And, while a little large, the big Dept. Stores know sell designer wallets that are large ( Rolfs, Hillfiger, etc. ).
Like everyone, I'm searching for the holy grail of wallets. Jim Pace and Seth Howard are coming out with an effect in February called: "Mercury Wallet: Wallet of the gods" I bet it will be fantastic. Until then, I use an everyday wallet with a double backer in it. I have never been caught and they can't believe I got their card in my wallet.

I would have to recommend the Malloy Hip Wallet, it is very well made and easy to use. It can also be used as a breast wallet if you wear a jacket as well. For those who want a no palm card to wallet routine, check out John Cornelius's Instant Pro Wallet.
