I have these fabulous industrial-strength steel leg shackles that I've had for so long, since my Magic days...
Originally made for an escape act of course, they're fully examinable. They need two real padlocks to fasten the shackles on each leg. Meaning they'll need the keys to open them, obviously. They're made from thick steel, no chains or whatever. Here's the thing... I really, really want to perform with these as a blindfolded Mentalism meets Escapology Act for a good three minutes, comedic banter and build up etc... A proper 'Routine'... A little danger would be good but only my legs are shackled, so how? I thought of finding the keys all mixed up in a whole bunch within a short time but that's not visually striking imho... I've always had this image of something coming towards me or falling down on me while I'm stuck in place, unable to move. All to the 'Can Can' Song in the background... Like in a James Bond Movie where he has to escape being shackled and there's an imminent danger... And he survives just in the nick of time... Make sense? Any ideas anyone?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for or if it will work, but it is what popped into my head as I was reading. It's only vague, but I trust you will get the gist and flesh it out if you like it.
One or more volunteers play the part of evil interrogators and shackle/blindfold you. The evil torture they are to perform is to be decided by them picking from envelopes or cards or somesuch which reveal things like: "Electrocute Chair #1" or "Stab Chair #2. As you are trying to escape you are also simultaneously divining the manner of torture to come along with which chair it is to apply; you must, of course, hop to non-torture chairs every time they pick a torture, all while escaping. I can picture this in my head as a very effective and comedic effect, but it is beyond me to actually write it out here. Hope that helps or that it is easy enough to ignore. |

6 spectators, each holding a key that they picked out of a bag. They are also thinking of a word / image / number / fetish
You are shackled, blindfolded, upside down & underwater. You have to divine a persons thought, if you get it right they can give you their key. Once you have the key you then decide using your intuition / psychic ability / hoodoo voodoo if it is the right one or not to free you from the shackles & water tank. This has to be done within 3 minuets otherwise you will drown. Spec 1 - right thought wrong key spec 2 - right thought wrong key spec 3 - wrong thought (No key) spec 4 - right thought wrong key spec 5 - wrong thought (no key) Spec 6 - right thought wrong key Oh no its gone wrong! spec 3 or 5 must have had it! Quick get him out of the tank! What's that? He's not there? Look behind you! A soggy and wet mentalist who can also teleport! Cheers, Art.

A very, very, very long chain attached at one end to the irons; at the other end to a vehicle set to 'peel out' at a certain point in the proceedings.

How about you straddle a table saw with the chain attached to your leg cuffs, going through two steel rings at the bottom of the table and up the top behind your back. So you have to unlock the chain behind your back/ work out the combination someones thinking of/ whatever, as the circular saw slowly moves towards your 'cup and balls'. |

I see...
I was going for a less mild approach but that's an idea. Thanks!
