Yoko joins him and she has a VERY B52's sound....long before there were the B52's.

I agree. Yoko's part sucked and she didn't need to be there but for Lennon's love for her, despite her complete lack of talent. Same with Linda Eastman. But, hey, she was a rich girl probably of average talent, and Paul loved her, and like Yoko, found a place in a band. 'Cept Yoko probably had a significant role in the breakup of the Beatles. Y'all can pursue discussion on that if you like, and that's just my opinion.
But the real jewel here and the only reason I'm posting, is to offer this rendition of the flip side of Hound Dog, which still holds a place in the history of R&R with simultaneous two sided hits... http://www.elvis-history-blog.com/hound-dog.html Watch and listen to this recording of Don't Be Cruel. I think the King would applaud this. But then knowing the diversity of this forum I know and accept that this is merely my opinion. Now go ahead and beat it to the death that many of you here like to do. Just leave me out of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3fITdfg6nQ ( I saw this first a short time ago right here in NVMS in a thread which has left the short term memory bank. Thought it worth repeating. )
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote Hound Dog and I prefer the original recording of it by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton

Thanks! I never seen Big Mama before, I loved it.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Ok, ban me for being off topic....
Debra Paget, Elvis mentioned her in one of the links above, and for those who may not know or remember, she was HOT in the Ten Commandments. The King must have thought so too. Then came Love me Tender.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BkylgOqTxY Ed Sullivan bristled at the King's gyrations on TV; I wonder how those down home folks during the War of the Rebellion would have handled it? Funny stuff.

I've never cared much for Yoko's voice, but over the years I've had a few opportunities to see her art work and always found it very engaging.

Long before John, Yoko was the most (only) interesting artist in the production of Julian Beck's "Paradise Now" that I saw.
She pioneered the use of the Fairchild Missile Tracking Camera for special effects, originating the floating baby and the ultra slow motion match flame that are normally associated with The Nation Forest Service PSA,s and the opening credits of "World According to Garp" and recent tire commercials.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Yoko is a classically trained pianist and was quite the avant avant-garde artist back in the day.

I saw an exhibition of her sculptures in NY once, many of which were an outgrowth of John's murder. Very powerful stuff.
