We were informed that Magic Ian has passed away about 4 PM EST today. That's all we heard. News originated from Orlando IBM Ring, I believe.

There is no information confirming this either on the Orlando Ring 170 Web site ( http://www.ring170.com/ ) , their Facebook Page ( https://www.facebook.com/Ring170 ) , or Ian's own Ring 258 from Leesburg, FL ( http://ring258.com/ ). I hope this isn't just a rumor being passed around.

I got the news from Elliot Hitchcock and he got it from Orlando. My assumption was the IBM ring. That may not be correct, but the news unfortunately is.

One member mentioned he was going in for surgery. That's just hearsay as I haven't confirmed it. But we just don't know a lot yet. We'll know more in a week - it was breaking news.

Great checking, by the way. One reason for Ian's website NOT being updated yet is that he was the webmaster. Smile

This seems pretty "official."

I'll update my Magic Inventors Biography for Magic Ian.

Ah, so you're the guy who maintains that site. I was wondering - was there any particular reason for not having Franz Harary listed? He's literally one of the most creative minds since PT Selbit.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ian several times at our Ring 170 meetings. He did a lecture on ropes for us just a couple of months ago; he was quite ill at the time but pressed on and did a great job. He was a very nice guy, a terrific thinker, and a solid inventor. He will be missed.
