Hello fellow magicians!
I'm posting this not to start another ****ing contest, but to share my experience and hopefully help someone that is unsure about who to go with. I was unsure about who to buy coin gaffs from. So I started searching and doing my homework. It was pretty much a toss up between Lassen, Schoolcraft, and Roy Kuepper. TBO the main reason I went with Schoolcraft was because of the ease of his website. I crossed my fingers and ordered the Soft Morgan Dollar Dean Set, OXF, and 3CF. HE called ME to keep me updated on the progress(I figured it would be the other way around). Well, I just got the set delivered in person by Jamie yesterday on the 4th of July and they are AMAZING!!!(He felt bad because it took a little longer than usual to finish them because he's in the middle of moving not only his shop, but also his family home. Plus I think he wanted to see my reaction to first seeing the set.) You will see from the pictures below that they are FLAWLESS. I have small hands and palming can be difficult for me. I can easily palm all 4 coins at once thanks to his edging. I could not be happier with how they turned out. They slept next to me on my night stand last night. I'm sure the others do good work and actually thought about giving Lassen a try with a Walking Liberty set just to see the difference. But I'm soo happy with Jamie that I'm scared the quality won't match up. If you have any questions, let me know. When making big purchases, we magicians should stick together. ~Jeff~ Below are the pictures of the Dean Set. On the side shots I moved the [ coin to see who could spot it. Not sure how the file size will work. I'm going to test it with the first picture and post the rest in another post. Click here to view attached image. |

If your scared the quality won't match up, then you have never seen a Lassen set before....his work is amazing...even the flipper groove is milled out into the metal of the coin..not like Jamies who is just a metal shim type piece on the flipper....give Lassen a try and you will be impressed.

Those are beautiful coins. You should feel very good about them, and inspired.
Good luck. I am about to place an order with Jamie for a set of re-milled Barbers. |

Above a certain level, similar gaffs doen't improves the performance for the audience.
These coins are top: way above the required level.

I sorta agree with Mr. O here, when coins are of such a high quality as to workmanship, the next level up really is what you can do with them.
I guess there might be some differences between Schoolcraft and Lassen but they both produce topnotch quality coin work, truth be told (And really, that includes Kueppers, too). I've seen great work from both guys and these coins shown here by jeff (And incidentally, welcome to the Café Jeff) look pretty darn sweet. But hey, I'm the sorta guy still happy as punch with my old X-Half dollar [ and C/S coin from Johnson's.

I agree...it all comes down to subjective preference. I have a Schoolcraft set because of chance...nice stuff. But I also have a lot of Johnson stuff that I am perfectly happy with. My walking liberty CSB set comes to mind. It all comes down to how much disposable income you have to burn.

Thank you all for the comments and the warm welcome. I'm new to Magic Café and love everything about it(except for some of the bickering). Is there a forum for selling tricks? I've been searching, but can't find it.
Thanks again, Jeff |
