Hello everybody !

I bought a oxf coin set from Vax, a french guy who works a lot on coin gaff and does a great job. Just a few question about it :

- I have the dvd from Eric Jones, An Extension of Me and use his oxyclean routine all the time. But I wonder if you could do more things with this set ?

- When the [ is on the f******, there is a step of 0.5mm, the [ doesn't nest perfectly. I think this is due because of the shim inside the [. Is it normal ? Or with others oxf sets, the [ nest perfectly ?

Thanks a lot guys !

.5mm sounds pretty stinkin' good, especially with a shim. There is always going to be a 'step' when you're working with a shell, unless the insert coin is thinned to match it, but I can't imagine being disappointed with a difference of half of a millimeter - even without a shim.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I own a couple of oxf and they both have a step. It's natural especially with a shim.

You really can't complain too much about that Alex. Some - a very few - cover a little more but virtually all my shells - and I have more than a few! - show that much and some much more. Of course when handled properly the spectators never notice it at all. If you are presenting your routine well they will never be looking at the edges.

That's about average. I think that unexpanded sets may give more coverage around the edge - though I've only owned 2 sets. Both from Roy Kueppers. Their coverage on the edge was incredible. Not 100%, of course, but I was thrilled.

I paid like 250/260$ for the oxf set + 4 matching coins. But it was second hand Smile

Sorry for this triple post but I have a question : how can I make the coins to "slide" more easily ? They are a little bit rough..

You mean the f*****r into the s***l? if so, you should add some teflon into the s***l if there isn't already (tango sells some pre cut teflon circles).

If you're asking about solid coins sliding more easily, you should probably get 'soft' or circulated coins from a local coin store. If they were just normal clad kennedy halves, id just say to sand them with some fine steel wool until they become softer (but you have walking liberties, which I don't recommend sanding).

I agree with Dentian. I've sanded down Morgans and darkened them with success. If anyone want to know how to soften coins, I have a great process. I'll post pictures when I get back from my trip.

Nice set Alex!!

I have a set from Vax too and its fantastic. My coins are old soft 10 french francs so I don't have noise problems, and the expanded shell with teflon covers almost all the regular coin (i can send you pics if yo want).

Regards
