Does anyone own the Shell Raiser DVD by Troy Hooser and is it good?

Yes. Yes.
If you use shells at all, it has good material you can use.

Atom, I'd be interested to know what level it's pitched at? The old thread turned into a savage indictment of the free half-dollar shell, rather than saying much about the actual DVD. I don't need a new shell, but am interested in Troy Hooser's material.
To the OP, if you are looking for exp. [ DVD's, you could check out Michael Vincent's "Rhapsodies in Silver and Other Mysteries". It only really uses an exp. [ in terms of gaffs. I don't think everyone liked Michael's take on Gary Kurtz's 'Trio', but there is a load of good stuff on this 4 DVD set. |

I have shellraiser. I found some of them moves not to be too practical and a bit angly, which is not needed for sh... coins. I was a bit disappointed and actually like World's Greatest Magic Expanded [ DVd much better. I hate to say, but Roth's ]'d coins across leaves the others in the dust. But the WGM dvd also has some other notable tricks on it, including an excellent one by Garrett.
So if you want to be complete, get Shell., but in my opinion, you would do better getting the DVD above and NYCoin Magic DVD #1--coins across. |

I haven't watched Hooser's DVD for well over a year. Remember that it's good basic stuff. Not difficult. In fact, as a whole, using shells is not that difficult. WGM DVD IS better with greater variety. Roth's own DVDs are clear. My favorite material on shells is in the NYCMS DVD volumes. Shell magic is sprinkled throughout. The move Latta came up with revolutionised shell handling. Don't forget David Neighbors' material. He is exceptional with handling shells; well, actually EVERYTHING, and you can order his books directly from him. There's also ONE older DVD that's great and a NEW DVD coming out "someday" (still working on it) that's ALL David. A VERY creative guy. You can PM David here on the Café and he can let you know specific material you might want to get.
Lastly, overall there is VERY little material on shells. IMO, you should just get everything you can.
