I'd love to hear how this year's event was and especially would like to see anyone's photos.

I will be having some behind the scenes video clips each day on my blog at:
http://www.learn-ventriloquism.com/news/ The clips will start Wednesday and run through Sunday with morning updates. They won't be long ones - but I'll do what I can between my duties there. Tom |

That way VH and the presenters could make a little money, and those of us who cannot attend will get a chance to see some of what we missed. For that matter, why doesn't VH have a museum shop? Posters and other items with images of their more popular figures would probably sell very well. . |

VentHaven Museum does sell souvenirs - this year a noted photographer did a major project taking portraits of some of the figures. I saw the book tonight and it is incredible. They sell for $75 through the museum and all funds go to the museum. On WorldVents, someone suggested buying them cheaper through Amazon - which you can - and then the museum gets nothing. The photographer will be doing a presentation here, then signing books. I've already reserved mine.
As for lectures being recorded - that is a no-no. Lecturers maintain the rights to their material and most sell lecture notes, some sell DVD's. The museum isn't equipped to sell and split proceeds with others. That would require extra record keeping, dispersement and accounting - which would be more of a headache than what they would generate. Tomorrow's video will show the set up of the showroom - it is pretty basic because I was extremely busy. Thursday's clip has already been started and will feature a clip with Steve Petra discussing his lecture for Friday. There will be more as time permits. I can say, Ken Groves and I picked up the Clinton Detweiler coins today and they are incredible! A true tribute to the man and his hall of fame coins. We are busy going over the logistics of getting 600+ people bussed over to Terry Fator's show at the Taft Theater on Friday night - and getting everyone back. The amount of detail that goes into planning this event is staggering. Mark Wade has an incredibly devoted staff. Gotta sleep - will report back soon. Tom |

Anyway, if possible, could you video the new puppets and figures that the dealers are selling? Another video has appeared on YouTube, but the shots are mostly of the backs of people's heads and shoulders. And most of the camerawork is so jittery that it is difficult to see anything clearly. A decent video would be nice! Thanks! |

No, they don't record, or allow anyone to record the shows for fear of people stealing material (at least that's what I've been told).
These days, with cell phones that can record, or small pocket recorders, if someone is the type to steal material, they are going to be able to do it without anyone even knowing, so I don't know if it should matter as much any more.

Did you hear about that guy who stole material and the owner took him to court? His lawyer told him his case was hanging by a thread.... oh hang on you don't mean that sort of material do you..

Wow, sounds like a great news. Does that mean the famed Maher Course will be back, along with the certification module?

I just saw the video on Tom's site of the Wades accepting Maher Studios, and Mark mentioned that he's moving to Florida. As a Floridian, I'm quite excited to hear this. Does anyone know what part of Florida he's moving to?

The last convention video will release tomorrow on my Learn-Ventriloquism blog - pretty short as it was a jam-packed day.
Jeff did a great lecture and tipped something we were asked not to share. It is wild! The Saturday night show brought down the house - and Taylor Mason rocked the room. Two notes - Dave - of course recording matters. We have people policing the room. It is fairy easy to find people recording video of the shows, although I'm not going to explain the way we do it. I had to ask someone to delete video they shot. We can remove people from the conVENTion if they break the rules. Also - on Maher Studios - the web site is up at: http://maherstudios.com Go sign up for the mailing list so you can be updated as things progress. I won't jump the gun on anything Mark is planning, but I believe everyone will be in for a real treat! |
