The author copped out on that one. All he did was take every common sign off and tweak it in the name of pessimistic ambiguity. The fact is, the tone of most everyone's sign off can be determined by the content of the email. It's completely illogical to be friendly in the body, but sign off with a threat, or insult. It may be possible to deliver a negative tone in the message and then leave with a sign off that uses well-mannered sarcasm. But those are usually easily read into, as well.
To me, there is more of an undertone to be read from between the lines when someone uses common texting encryption. It somehow says, "You are not worth my time to write out a complete word, let alone a complete sentence."

I use no salutation. Does that make me a bad person?

Or he could be completely over-thinking the situation.
In my opinion, the main purpose of email is to convey a message quickly. If there needs to be a lot of feeling involved, write a letter, unless you are trying to get a quick message to a friend who has lost a loved one or who is ill or has received bad news. In that case, I might simply say, "I'll be thinking about you/praying for you" or something similar, then follow it up with a written note.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

...write a letter... I'd agree with you, but frankly I don't think I've received or written more than a dozen real letters since the late 90s. I used to like those things though, because I would always stuff a lot of extra weird things in the envelopes. A lot of folks under the age of 25 I daresay have never received a personal letter in the mail. Hmm...now I'm really curious, I'm going to start a thread on that.

It does spark some discussion possibilities. I'm glad you posted the original link. I just don't really agree with the writer's slant. Almost any words can be convoluted to express a meaning different than that intended.
