Uri DID divine water underground. Something to do with manhole covers and hydrants. I didn't understand it myself, of course...

I enjoyed the show, you have to admire Uri's confidence and charisma. Despite past exposures he still remains in character, this is what has helped to make him become a legend.

I have followed this thread with interest, and would generally support Stephen as being clearer and more consistent than some have given him credit for, for whatever reasons. I have one quibble: A government's denial of a working relationship with Uri Geller may not have been, if true, all that "clever."
There have been many cases (the Roswell, NM episode comes to mind) in which, if the government had said anything but "no," there would have been NO END to the issue. For the sake of efficiency, governments need to spend priority time and energy on matters that are more important. Think about it. If you were in charge, are there some things you'd rather not deal with? I am NOT saying that governments are right in lying to the people; I am just saying it is humanly understandable. George |

Dunninger was not only investigated by the FBI, but during WWII, there are documents describing the possible use of his skills to aid the Allies.

You can say what you want about Uri, but for an entertainer to create such a legend around himself is incredible. I see him being called a lot of names, yet he is the one with a documentary on BBC more than 30 years after he was at his real peak. While I might not do things the same way he did, I think there is a LOT to be learnt from Mr Geller.

I have defended Geller on this forum and others (including the JREF) as being one of the most influential people in the art and also as someone who demonstrated some skills that are worth emulating. I end my defense there, and I do not in any way use fame or success as a reason to admire or emulate. There are hordes of famous and successful people, including entertainers, who are not on the whole worth an ounce of respect. Conversely, there are people not so famous and far less successful who are worthy of respect and emulation; this is true in many fields, not just mentalism.
How to turn a minor parlor trick into a phenomenon that gives people the entertainment experience of a lifetime? Watch Uri in his heyday. How to be famous without misrepresenting what you do and continually lying about your abilities and selling fabricated tales about your childhood? Not even remotely Uri. |

I find Geller to be an inspiration inasmuch as he was able to convince so many with so little.

It was'nt really a documentary though was it?
A lot of it felt that Uri was being gently mocked. They kept asking him about secret things he might have been involved in knowing he was going to say ''I hope you understand but that is not something I can talk about'' The BBC can do irony very well.
