My mother lived to be 89 and my father 80. Not bad for meat eaters. I'll take that. Ya'll vegetarians, good on ya! Enjoy it and embrace it. I'm with you on your choices. Me, I'll take my daily ration of protein in meat form, albeit helped along the way with other favorite sources, like peanut butter, nuts, beans, eggs, and well you get it. And then there's bacon. mmmmmm

I have been vegetarian since the age of 18.. Vegan since 19...
I'm 36 now. That's like 17 years. Tried raw for a while; even became a certified raw vegan chef and worked in a raw restaurant for a while... But have gone back to cooked. Best resource for turning vegan? Online there are lots of recipes websites... The most popular being Vegweb . Com |

Rockwall,
There's a documentary on Netflix called "Forks Over Knives Presents: The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue" where the guy who wrote the Engine 2 books initiates some families into his "plant strong" (read: vegan) diet. I don't agree with everything in it, particularly since I didn't think the China Study was very scientifically... good... but I think this doc is an overall decent intro and it did give me some good ideas. I also found this list: http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/vegan

If I eat the same thing every day does that make me a Unitarian?

You know the 1's: Im a vegetarian but I still eat chicken/fish sometimes. Michael Jackson was that way. I commend those of you who have been a veggie for more than 2 years. I've had coworkers and students tell me they tried it for a year or 2 but relapsed and went back to their carnivoric ways. I can't get mad at them though because I relapse the very 1st day. That was the single most shameful event of my life......

Vegetarian for virtually all my life. First for ethical reasons then when I converted to Eastern Orthodox Christianity also for religious reasons - we fast six months throughout the year. I tried vegan here in The Netherlands but this country is very unfriendly to vegetarians - in restaurants the only fare is usually a salad unless you go to an Indian or Middle Eastern restaurant.
Bob, thanks man for not picking on vegetarians. Some people assume that all vegetarians are also members of wacko groups like PETA - who actually KILL animals. To be fair, PETA was at one time more realistic. But - and please folks I hope you will pardon the short story - PETA's soy chesse has slipped of its cracker. Last year my g/f went to an agency here in Holland that specializes in rescuing animals from countries notorious for animal abuse - Spain is the worst with Greece a very close second. This beautiful shepherd/collie mix - named Diva - was severely abused in Greece. Anyhow the agency rescued her and we adopted her. She was terrified of everything. I worked with her and she is a wonderful, playful dog of 1 1/2 years now. The best part is that my g/f's son had an almost pathological fear of dogs. Diva really helped in overcome that and now he loves dogs. But, PETA's philosophy is that owning a pet is wrong and they would have advocated putting this precious dog down. WTF??!! In addition, PETA's tactics have done more harm with respect to enlightening people concerning animal cruelty. Somehow, they think that the sledge hammer approach works. Sorry for the tangent folks; thanks for the very cool thread! Namaste, Vlad |

Vlad I've always believed in live and let live. God bless you for whatever you eat and for whatever reasons. Our only goal is to get to Heaven, or whatever folks wish to call it. How we do it is our own concern. But I do get a little agitated when someone says carnivores are "one of the worst people in the world." That's a bit over the top, but hey, he's entitled to his opinion too. Good on ya Vlad for rescuing that collie. I never met a dog I didn't like. I have a thing for border collies and I won't pirate the thread any further with it.
