Hi All,
I have been searching endlessly for a decent flash paper to fold into origami butterfles both for the purpose of levitating them and then setting them ablaze. Is there a particular type of paper or a particular seller that I can be refered to for it? |

The only "origami" that I've done with flash paper was Kevin James' Floating Rose and my own boy scout themed version of it where I tie a knot in it. How complicated is your butterfly?

It is similar to the butterflies one may make with dollar bills.
It would be lovely if I could fold it in front of the audience, float it about, and then burn it away. But, would it be more adventageous to cut the shape of a butterfly and fold it to similate it's form? |

I doubt that you will ever find flash paper that can hold up for origami butterflies. Cutting into butterfly shape is your best bet. But that that raises the question of what to do with the leftover scraps of flash paper that are left afterward, Flash Confetti? Not sure how that could be used. Or maybe a torn and restored dollar bill: A dollar bill is visibly torn into small pieces, after a simple switch the pieces vanish in a flash and a folded and restored dollar bill is left folded op in their place in their place.

"and a restored dollar bill is left folded up in their place." -grammer correction, up instead of op.

Thank you for all your insight.
We have been playing around with the folded butterfly shape and have come across two primary designs. The first is to twist it in such a way that it somewhat resembles a butterfly. The other option is to cut it. The extra pieces I use for flash pots or finger flashers. They work very well. As it stands, the magician enters the stage with a little Japanese box and opens it to reveal the little piece of paper which she folds into a butterfly. That turns into a basic levitation routine (brief yet very pretty) and ends with her setting fire to the butterfly and it poofs away. Our primary issue now is what to do with the wee little piece of tack that holds the flash paper butterfly to the levitation gimmick. |

Is this effect part of your show now?

It is,indeed! We'll be premiering it September 29th. The woman I am working with also decided to combine it with a floating butterfly routine with a fan to stretch the act. It's a beautiful, beautiful piece.
