DT3, if we're heading into Irvin Welsh territory, there's actually a great deal of similarity between a mentalist and a trainspotter. One needs the methods for the latest tricks, the other needs the methadone for the latest fix.

In my first post opinion haha, for me its a matter of framing and believability... I have been a magic hobbyist for a long time, and it seemed like the way people viewed magic tricks, or at least the way I would do them, were tricks and just that. Getting into the hypnosis, mentalism, mind reading side of the coin leaves people with some element of believability if you paint it correctly. I think now, more than ever, people are more open to the idea that this stuff is genuinely possible and its kind of our jobs to make it look believable and not nerdy... or incredibly nerdy if that is in fact what you are going for
