Well, after years of desiring to build a modern day course in magic we release our first volume August 20th. Having been the president of the magic club in Fort Walton Beach I wanted to create a course that would help beginners or seasoned magicians to go to a new level. We want magicigans performing magic not just knowing how magic is performed. We expect to release a total of 6 volumes totalling over 50 hours of instruction by Shoot and guest magicians. It's a very different course. We use cartoons to give you something fun to do while you practice your techniques. We also give you 30 hours of the 1930's famous radio progam 'Jerry of the Circus' to encourage you to practice daily! Below is our hype I've included two videos for preview - A 4 minute lesson on what Shoot calls Framing and the other our 5 minute promo of the course. Use the code shootsfriends to get a $65 off coupon good for August only.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofA11-xZPk4 - Framing Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyKmtiaKhgY - Promo Video The below is part of our hype Meet Professor Shoot Ogawa Shoot Ogawa was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, where he began learning magic at the age of 10. Since making pebbles disappear by the river in his back yard, Shoot Ogawa has travelled and performed in over 43 countries. He routinely performs his award-winning acts for companies such as Toyota, Apple, Google, and Aflac, to name a few. He is routinely hired to entertain America’s favorite actors for private functions, an honor given to few magicians. He has been named “Magician of the Year” four times by the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood California. He was also a featured character in "Magic Master", a popular Japanese teenager comic book. Lighthouse, one of the most popular Japanese publications, named Shoot Ogawa one of the three best Japanese entertainers in America. Now living in the United States, Shoot speaks fluent English and maintains a second home in Los Angeles near the Magic Castle. Imagination University is honored to have him teach our very first course: Close-Up Magic 101 with Professor Shoot Ogawa Here’s the Story! Since 1996 we have been working with Universities who have distance-learning programs, long before the term distance learning was even a household name. Having been exposed to the various methods of teaching via this distribution model, we wanted to know if we could create a modern day course in magic that could be extremely fun, yet educational. Could we also help that student who desires to earn a living with magic to become the best performer he or she can be and to generate an income of 80 to 100K a year? We believe that we are well on our way. Volume 1 was officially released on August 1st, 2013. It has taken almost 7 months’ work from a dedicated group of individuals to create a course in magic that is self-paced, fun, and highly educational. Our mission for this project is simply this: We want you performing magic not just knowing how magic is performed. Let Shoot take you on a journey from simply doing tricks to performing ART. Method of Instruction: We have chosen the mastery learning method as used by private institutions as well as homeschool instruction. In mastery learning, students are encouraged to practice until they master one technique before proceeding on to more advanced techniques. In this way a technique learned in the first lesson will continue to be used across all volumes of instruction, just in new ways. We will regularly refresh the knowledge of what has already been taught while having fun learning how to do something completely different with that knowledge—something that is vital to becoming a creative and critical thinker in one's craft. Classics with New Twists: By using the method described above, Professor Ogawa and his teacher, Masahiro Yanagida, take students on an exciting adventure by showing them how to change a classic effect a little to create something totally new. One example is the sponge ball routine that many magicians already know. Instead of the spectator ending up with 3 sponge balls in his hand, the magician ends with a handful of candy and the sponge balls have disappeared. This trick utilizes the same techniques as used to produce the sponge balls in the spectator's hands, but with a much different ending, leading the magician to ask, “What can I do differently with what I already know?” Format: Each DVD begins by teaching students 3 routines and effects. Professor Ogawa then teaches the student how to perform the routine. With some effects, Professor Ogawa walks students through the important steps of magic theory, explaining how to make that routine POP, adding additional FLAIR. Professor Ogawa teaches where the IMPACT points are—points that take a routine from being simply a "trick" to becoming a truly magical experience. He then teaches the techniques required to perform the effect with his own variations of each technique. After the technique has been taught, students are rewarded with a vintage Looney Toons cartoon to watch as they practice for about 6 minutes. Who said practice had to be boring? Building muscle memory to perform as naturally as one can is the most important skill a magician can learn. This process is repeated 4-5 times on each DVD. Magic Theory: I remember attending a full-size stage show with several performers doing all sort of illusions. Some literally came with gigantic trucks unloading massive amounts of equipment and taking an enormous amount of time to set up. One by one performers vanished birds, produced assistants from thin air and dazzled the audience with flash sparkling smoke, big movements and loud music. Then it was Shoot Ogawa's turn to perform; he walked on stage with the smallest of small briefcases. Some must have giggled underneath their breath thinking, “Who is this guy to perform on such a large stage with only a small prop?” Shoot Ogawa proceeded to create such a wonderful experience with his movements, music, and dialogue using only rope, ring, and a wand that the audience was compelled to give him a very loud standing ovation at the end of his final effect. How did Shoot Ogawa get such a strong reaction to his performance with only a small briefcase? Magic Theory. Magic Theory is where the real magic is at, and as most professionals will tell you, it’s where the real secret lies in creating a magical experience for the audience, not just a puzzle they talk about on the way home. Magic theory is the discussion of movement, timing and coordination with props, music, and the flow of the audience’s emotional movements. It involves the understanding of how to use all available resources in order to move the spectator to a conclusion they weren’t expecting. The success of employing these techniques will leave a very satisfying feeling in the audience members long after they have left your show . . . even if that show took place at your kitchen table! This course is full of discussions on magic theory. From the first lesson to the last, Professor Ogawa spends quality time talking, instructing and teaching theory. Close-Up Magic 101 takes students on a journey from doing tricks to performing art. The performer (student) and the audience alike will both have a higher degree of satisfaction when that performer fully understands the principles behind magic theory. http://imaginationfoundry.com/?page_id=1299 |

Looks interesting...I might just go for this.
Theory, routining etc. is what is peaking my interest.
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!

One of the bonus discs contains about 2 hours of Shoot sitting with other magicians going over his thoughts about theory while demonstrating his thoughs with various effects. We should have the effect and technique list up by tomorrow. Can't tell you how many "Whataburgers" we ate while making the list of theory topics to discuss Cheers! |

Im still a little confused as to who is the target audience?
Beginners, but sound theory that could help anyone? or any magician, regardless of age, to help make their magic pop? if its initially aiming at kids or beginners, then I probably wouldnt be as I interested. |

Taller8 - we created the first volume for beginners to intermediate. However the bonus discs are only for advanced magicians. This is why we created the magician version. Those discs contain his matrix an purse frame routines. The first two discs are beginner but quickly moves the student to intermediate level. The routines are fun and have strong impact but nothing overly difficult. You will learn about 30 techniques with cards coins and vanishes with objects. In all honesty I can't tell you if you will like it or not. That's because a number of magicians who have been performing for 20 years love it. If nothing else keep the bonus discs gleam from the others and give as a gift . Volume two most definitely takes it up a notch. One last thought, we spend as much time helping to develop your performance skills as we do your techniques. In a few days we will have a complete breakdown of what's on each disc which might help you decide. Hope this helps and please forgive any errors as I'm on the phone at an airport terminal.

Also the bonus discs contain 2 hrs of magic theory discussion with shoot. That and his matrix worth the price by themselves.

For the international orders you will be receiving yours next week I suspect. We had a delay in shipping due to technical issues with the discs. Over the next 48 hours all of you will be given access to the online version for free as our way of saying thanks for being patient with us. The online is identical but it's in High Definition and we will be giving you freebies throughout the year. If you live in the states you should have received your package and or receive it today. I don't know of any order not shipped via UPS. Thank you all and please reply or pm me with any questions that you have regarding this course.
