This seems a better version of the previous release.
http://davidregal.com/passport-renewed/ How has Passport been improved? * Passport (renewed) uses leather wallets are custom made and embossed for this effect. For this reason they now feature a more universal design. * Passport (renewed) uses a different gimmick. With the permission of Alexander de Cova, we have changed one element of his gimmick in a way that allows for the mind reading phase of the Passport routine. It is this gimmick that is used for an automatic control of the card and palm-free transfer of the card to the leather case. * Passport (renewed) has a new handling. Thanks to suggestions from magician Bizzaro, the Passport routine can now be done at chest-height, making it perfect for parlor and stage as well as close-up and walk-around. * Passport (renewed) is even easier to reset. As you place the props away, you are setting up for your nest performance! Although Passport (Renewed) has indeed been improved from the original Passport, the central idea remains the same – to provide a presentational framework for the card-to-wallet plot. When we travel in life, we’ll use a passport to go from one place to another. So why not incorporate the concept of a passport when a selected card is magically transported from one place to another?

Someone just told me about this thread. Passport (renewed) is only available from me at this point in time. The above blurb about the trick is all true, but other differences between the release four years ago and this one include:
* The trick can start off with the spectators examining and shuffling the deck. * The variation on the de Cova gimmick makes the handling very simple, sure fire, and free. I really do feel this effect is improved, thanks to aid from Alexander de Cova, Bizzaro, and a few new ideas of my own. The cost is, I feel, reasonable ($65), but how's this: If you get it and don't like it just send it back to me within four weeks for a full refund of the purchase price. I really do think you'll like it - but now you don't have to take my word for it, or risk your hard-earned bucks wondering. All the best, David |

Received Passport renewed today. This is a a "fantastic" work of magic. All the props are very well made, the DVD with David's teaching is very exceptional as always.
The price is very reasonable, so if your on the fence, jump off and grab this magical item, you will not be disappointed. Thank you David for all your magic and creativity. Joe |

Can you use your own passport?

I'm starting to feel like you have to wait 4 or 5 years until all the improvements have made before buying.
David can you still use a real passport? If the passport that comes with the latest version is like the original, then it just doesn't look authentic enough. Also in your video, you mention the wallets are custom made. What's the importance of this and how are they better made then the original?

I'm honestly not sure how to respond to some of these comments. Many products on the marketplace, not just magic items, go through an evolution. Look at Apple products, for example, where upgraded versions of products sometimes appear after less than a year.
Passport has been off the market for four years. I chose to re-release it due to demand, so the real question is: Should I have not included improvements? You can use an actual passport. I include a mock passport in case one wishes to get started immediately, or if that's preferred. The previous leather cases were existing items purchased from the manufacturer and modified. The new leather cases are made from scratch, so I do not include the name of any specific country embossed into the leather. The cases are not interchangeable, as the gaffs are positioned differently. In short, this is a no-palm card-to-wallet style routine, with an added mind-reading phase, at a cost about half that of the beefy wallets on the market, and I am confident you will like it. That is why I am offering the money-back guarantee (scroll up). I'm off to Magic Live - don't think I'm ignoring everyone if I disappear! |

You can use an actual passport. Hey David, I have an idea for the next version: release it with a real expired passport. The name is there already: Passport Expired. Love the new release!!

Thanks for the reply David. I have 4-5 old filled passports as I travel for my job constantly. That's why this is such a great concept for me to carry. Looking forward to this.

David, yes your right about Apple.
Take my iPhone for example it's an extremely intricate piece of technology. It allows me to talk to someone on the other side of the world, get on the Internet, take photos, listen to music and a whole host of other things. When it first came out, it cost $600. Many, many improvements later you can now get one for $150-$200. The same thing happened with the price of flat screen TVs. I like improvements. I like them better when the price goes down. Maybe you could follow Apples lead in that regard. David I love your work and many of your products including the original passport, which I purchased from you.

I like lowering prices. I lowered the price of my book for a while. When I re-made Disposable Deck I doubled the number of included props. In the case of Passport, the low price of $60 was possible due to the fact that I built all 500 by hand, in my home. For this run, I had the wallets manufactured and because of additional cost, the price went up $5.
A few people contacted me privately and asked if they could get a discounted price on Passport (renewed) as they bought the original Passport and felt that it would be appropriate. This led to a respectful dialogue, and a few people received discounts. Motown, thank you for the nice things you said, but for the snarky, antagonistic way in which you have aired what appears to be a grievance, I do not thank you. You feel I have done you a disservice, and I hear that. But I don't believe I said anything in this thread - or anywhere else - that implied a disrespectful tone on my part. There are valid questions here - Should I have kept Passport off the market another four years before reintroducing it with improvements? What would an appropriate amount of time have been? Should I have not improved the effect? I can engage in dialogue. I cannot engage in things that are not dialogue. |

For the life of me, I can't see why people would argue over a $5 increase in price. Drink one cup of coffee less, delay your subscription to Reel Magic Magazine or quit smoking.
And just in case: comparisons to technological products like Apple devices are irrelevant, as technology gets cheaper as time goes by. Also, $150 for an iPhone? Don't forget to include your contract. |

I have the original and I inquired in the other thread as to what the specific improvements are, as that wasn’t entirely clear in the video - other than to say it was "better". My question has been answered and I am more than satisfied. My order is going in this afternoon.
Thanks! Jim |

David,
You made the comparison to Apple, not me. If you think my comments were snarky and antagonistic, then I think that's a scenario you created in your own mind. Hope you have a lot of success with the new wallet.
