Though TV didn't exist as a child 4 some of you you can still play along. It can be animated like The Jetsons or live action like The Electric Company. I put an s at the end of the word shows specifically 4 those previously who would dare defy me. Heres a few Eternity:
Looney Tunes Felix The Cat Little Lulu Popeye Superman
Colors are Foreva. Numbers are Infinite. 4 every number there's a color. HEY! Eternity! Lets smoke a beer and drink some loud. But wait! I heard you was a six a plus a 6 ahhhh.

I seem to recall around 3 my favorite show being Sharon, Lois & Bram's Elephant Show, I also watched Today's Special quite a bit (both are those are Canadian, that with my love of Rush might be telling). And, since I was an 80s child, the list isn't complete without Ninja Turtles.

Network TV has been around since the late 1940's, so I doubt that many of us are old enough to remember when it didn't exist. Some of my favorites when I was a child in the 50's were:
Winky Dink! Mr. Peepers Davy Crockett The Lone Ranger Howdy Doody The Cisco Kid Hopalong Cassidy |

Don't remember a thing about the Davey Crockett show, but I can still sing the song.

Astro Boy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmAaz3irJVQ Kimba The White Lion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQsQqOlPjhs (And no, for all its similarites, I do NOT follow the theory that "The Lion King" is a direct rip-off of "Kimba." Simba didn't go back to rule his father's kingdom AS a cub, nor did he actually talk to game wardens in the area as Kimba did. I believe Disney WANTED to rip off "Kimba" realized they were going to get caught and deveoped an original story using some of the stuff they'd developed for the "Kimba" rip off.) Speed Racer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suCm1w_KTiY and one NOBODY remembers; The Amazing Three http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vskm4V8DZbE I understand the Engish versions of this cartoon have been lost. I'll spare you Clutch Cargo, Space Angel and the Marvel Men. I watched some real crap.

Davey Crocket's story was told in three weekly segments starring Fess Parker as Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as his sidekick Georgie Russell, if I remember it correctly. First episode was Davey Crockett, Creek Indian Fighter; second episode was Davey Crockett and Mike Fink (King of the River) in the Great Riverboat Race, or something like that. The third episode was Davey Crockett at the Alamo. It was a Disney production classic and created the great coonskin cap craze of the fifties for kids like me. I had one of them myself.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin was one of my first childhood favorites. Friday evenings in NYC, 7pm or 8pm if I remember correctly. Starring Lee Akers as Rusty, James Brown as Lt. Rip Masters, Joe Sawyer as Sgt. Biff O'Hara and Rand Brooks as Cpl. Boone, among others.
Yo Rinty!

Clutch Cargo was cool!
Animated shows: Jonny Quest Mighty Mouse Woody Woodpecker Popeye Rocky and Bullwinkle Huckleberry Hound The Flintstones ...and my absolute favorite: Johnny Little and the Giant - This was an animated film from France that was shown in segments on a local afternoon cartoon show. It was originally released as a full length film as "Johnny the Giant Killer". I saw it once when I was maybe five or six. I never forgot it, and 50 years later with the help of the internet, I found a copy of the film. It is some of the trippiest animation EVER. Non-animated: The Three Stooges Addams Family Dark Shadows ... and probably a hundred more.

The Flintstones (really a cartoon version of Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners") was originally sponsored by Winston cigarettes. I remember seeing the commercials starring Fred and Barney. Here's one of the earliest:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqdTBDkUEEQ Winston was also a sponsor of The Beverly Hillbillies. Here's the cast lighting up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEx44ETP8Ac |
