I have also been fascinated about this when I heard about it awhile back. It's not quite for me, however it doesn't surprise me the number of people who are chomping at the bit to go.

I'd have no problems doing it, however, I think I need to be in better shape before they would accept me (I used to be in good shape at one time but age catches up with you plus I don't exercise as much as I used to though I do get out and walk occasionally with my dog). Laziness or age is no excuse though. I hear their is a huge percentage of the volunteers who are Americans, if not the highest percentage out of the all the nations who have volunteered. I read that in the news article somewhere. Makes me proud.

No, I probably would not.
But are those doing so more or less crazy than these folks? http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/219129631.html I would argue less crazy (because the ones volunteering for Mars probably mostly realise they have a snowball's chance in heck of beng selected).

I would. My family dates back to the early settlement of this country. They all knew that it was a one way trip when they left the so-called old world for this continent. My family is full of folks that kept moving west to find new lands and new lives. I'd go in an eye blink.
