More than 100,000 people apply for a one-way trip to Mars.

"Out of the applicants, Mars One said it will select a multicontinental group of 40 astronauts this year. Four of them -- two men and two women -- are set to leave for Mars in September 2022, landing in April 2023."

I have also been fascinated about this when I heard about it awhile back. It's not quite for me, however it doesn't surprise me the number of people who are chomping at the bit to go.

If I was born in the future, I might be up for this. But not in this string, borrowing from Stephen King's 11-22-63.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

If life is already too short what the heck is the point of quitting early?

Is that some kind of teabonic logic?

Trust me teabonics will be in the dictionary just like we all now know who the half governor of Alaska is.

You think we have rough posts. You have to read the ones after reading the link at the site.
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

I'd have no problems doing it, however, I think I need to be in better shape before they would accept me (I used to be in good shape at one time but age catches up with you plus I don't exercise as much as I used to though I do get out and walk occasionally with my dog). Laziness or age is no excuse though. I hear their is a huge percentage of the volunteers who are Americans, if not the highest percentage out of the all the nations who have volunteered. I read that in the news article somewhere. Makes me proud.

No, I probably would not.

But are those doing so more or less crazy than these folks?

http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/219129631.html

I would argue less crazy (because the ones volunteering for Mars probably mostly realise they have a snowball's chance in heck of beng selected).

I would. My family dates back to the early settlement of this country. They all knew that it was a one way trip when they left the so-called old world for this continent. My family is full of folks that kept moving west to find new lands and new lives. I'd go in an eye blink.

I don't think they are crazy at all for wanting to do it. I mean, what an adventure! If it actually happens, I will cheer those who go.

I wouldn't go, but I wouldn't mind being able to pick the 40. Is volunteering a requirement?
