"Loose" written when "lose" is intended drives me crazy.
It seems that almost everyone uses "begging the question" incorrectly nowadays. It does NOT mean "raises the question." Basically, it means assuming a fact not in evidence, as in "When did you stop beating your wife?" |

Words mean whatever the speaker intends them to mean.
If you doubt me ask a man of color about the word *****. |

I guess you agree with Lewis Carroll's Humpty Dumpty, then:
Quote:
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.' If words mean "whatever the speaker intends them to mean," meaningful communication would be impossible - exactly the point Carroll was satirically making. |

Obviously not as many here, including you, knew exactly what I meant. Thanks for proving my point! |

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln (reportedly), if you call a tail a leg, a horse still has four legs. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one, nor does it change the meaning of the word.

Left or Right Wing? The way I see it is, when they are both being flapped by the same bird, what's the difference?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
