Has anyone seen these coins in person? Are they real silver?

As a rule, I don't buy Magic Makers, but Ben Salinas is apparently involved with this.

I read somewhere that they are not silver but they are made of some heavy metal so they have a feel of silver.

Have you had bad experience buying from Magic Makers?

Stay away from magic makers. They are copy effects and make them cheaply. Not quality stuff at all. I got duped into buying the illusion coins thinking I was getting a bargin. They are crap. A blaitant copy of Bob Kohlers ultimate three fly. Unfortunatly if you haven't used or handled the original which I have you wouldn't even know you were getting ripped off.

No, take a look at the videos on the site I posted. This is something different than the original (if I can use that word) Illusion Coins which are indeed a copy of Bob Kohler's U3F with noticeably inferior coins. In those videos, Ben Salinas is handling coins that look much better than the cheap ones that come with the original, and the site indicates that Ben is doing the instruction on the DVD that goes with these. They refer to it as a "Pro "Model" and I was wondering if this meant they were real silver coins. I'm not sure if I would buy them, but it's a close call since, after the feud between Lassen and Kohler, no one is making U3Fs anymore and I have a lot of respect for Ben as a coin magician.

My reluctance to buy from Magic Makers stems from their habit of "borrowing" from the creator (like they have done with Chuck Leach) without attribution, permission or remuneration.

I've found that the majority of their products are vastly inferior in quality. I wouldn't purchase from them.

Hmmm...wonder what they did differently? Not have "copy" stamped on each coin? Smile

Maybe a more in-depth dvd? The coins have about the same look as the older model from what little I can tell on the promo vid. Who knows...
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

No way they are silver. A Morgan Silver Dollar will cost about $30 each in a coin shop (they go for more than their silver content- collectors like them).
that's why CFWM from Mark Mason cost $395-those are real silver

Thanks, Bambu.

The coins look like the same old crappy Illusion coins to me and the price reflects that. Perhaps a better teaching video by a more experienced coin magician thrown in at a slightly reduced price. Maybe they have a bunch of Illusion Coins sitting around unsold and need to move them.

Ben seems like a nice guy from his posts on the Café and I respect his coin work, but I guess he has to do what his bosses tell him to do.

Yeah, he's got some talent, but he was just a kid in 2007. MM didn't even put his name on the DVD (his name is spoken briefly at the beginning of the DVD, though).

I found the name of the magician teaching on the original DVD on google (I couldn't hear it very clearly on the DVD). He has some magic Youtube videos out:

I don't think he is using Illusion Coins in that video. I wonder why? Smile

Talented kid, though.

A few years ago I picked a set of Illusion Coins up because they were reduced and only £30. Horrible quality but good enough for practice.

As Chessman said, they had 'COPY' stamped on the back & they're certainly not silver at all.

Looking at the pics on Ben's site these 'pro model' ones don't look any different.

Don't they have to say "copy" on them if they are replica coins?
I cant see MM going thru the expense of using real Morgans.
I agree with the above postings. There are some good magicians who have done work with MM like Ben Salinas, Jeremy Haak, Sal Paciente to just name a few. But their products generally are of inferior quality to other stuff out there. I've had some issues with their lack of customer service in the past as well.

Fake Morgan dollars without "copy" stamped on them are actually fairly common now.

Bill Palmer started what's become a sticky thread on Nothing up my Sleeve discussing this: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=3&28

Apparently, if you are selling fake Morgan's as if they are real (in other words, with the intent to defraud) then you are going to face possible criminal prosecution from the Secret Service, but if you are just buying or using them for magic they don't have much interest.

Still seems like they can get you for counterfeiting if they wanted to. I wouldn't risk it.
But fake Morgans are pretty common. Doubt if anyone would give a magician much grief over it. Still, some magicians still get grief for doing the monte or shells as a demonstration on the streets.

No they can't. Please look it - it has been posted many times here at the Café. It is only actionable if you are using them in an attempt to defraud. Entertainment usage is acceptable.
