It has been long since I have perused these forums. Wiling away, reorganising my multitude of gimmicked bikes that rarely get used ( save a couple DB and DF cards, our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs and wallets!) I came across this effect, packed neatly in a printed manila envelope, that came to me over a decade ago. As a kid I looked at the deck and must have tossed it aside due to its simplicity or maybe to get to the latest plasticy tenyo gadget. It re-emerged a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I totally understand why this pack is so effective when wrung in after a lengthy routine with a standard pack. The effect is as follows:
Phase 1: Pack is shown face down, then instantaneously four aces appear face up in different parts of the deck Phase 2: the cards are fairly turned face down in different portions of the pack. The spectator names a number and a suit, and the magician fairly counts down to that number and the ace of their named suit is there! Phase 3: the deck is cut by the spectator. The spectator then names any number. The cards are fairly counted to that number, and the four aces are found right there! You know that feeling in magic when you dismiss a method immediately because you think, really?? and then just once you give it a chance and see what a fool you have been. Your magician brain has one expectation, but you forget that the audience is not privy to any 'method', and this is really the most straightforward way to accomplish a AAAN routine . This deck, at the end of a card routine, can demonstrate sleight, skill, and mastery of card control. It is dangerous, however, as something of this magnitude can negate previous magical efforts because you seem to demonstrate SO much control over the cards that very little can become impressive afterwards. All I have to say is that I have to bow down to Bob Farmer as quite a methodological mastermind. In the age of ellusionist and penguin pizazz ye old 'how they used to gamble at the card table' plots are few and far between, but I find they bring a real air of nostalgia as well as intrigue at the idea of being privy to some seriously high level card control technique. This stuff wont be for everyone, but I sure know Mr. Farmer has put out some really closely considered techniques and gaffes. I will continue to use this deck. It's a worker! Take Care! |
