I have already read through many of the past postings regarding cards, I still have a few more questions:
1) When cards begin to stick, it was suggested to either get rid of them or use fanning powder. When you use fanning powder on an old deck, is their a point where you really just have to throw them away. Does the fanning powder accumulate over time? Are there any health risks related to fanning powder? 2) Once you have decided to get rid of the old deck, are there any uses for the old cards or do you really just have to throw them away? If you ever saw my garage you would understand this question Thanks Gadi |

I have never had much luck un sticking cards. I live in the deep south, lots of humidity, and I have sweaty hands.
So, I throw my cards out when they get too sticky or dirty. I have tried plain old powder from my wife's side of the vanity, it kinda helped. But the cards smelled like lilacs. Old cards are great for practicing your tricks where you need to destroy the card, as mentioned above.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

When you use famming powder, eventually you will get small black dots appearing on the cards. I think this is from dirt sticking to the powder. Personally, when the cards start to stick, I just throw them in a drawer which I access when I need duplicates etc.

The deck has served it's purpose....open a new deck and keep your hands clean. The cards will last longer but will not last forever...

Sometimes I'll use a whole old deck to practice mercury folds. Either way they go to the bin but this way aids my magic. 😀

Use them for signing too. Basically anything where a card is going to end up ruined/destroyed.

Here in Italy Bicycles, Tally-Hos etc. are very expensive and for this reason I take care to have them last as long as possible. I use simple talcum powder, then rub them, face and back, on a soft cloth ( rag, whool and the like ). It works, at least for a while. Another little trick is to sharpen the edges with a pair of tweezers.
Here there's a thread on used cards http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=206&28 |
