Hi
I was wondering if you guys have had any success with mentalism effects with kids (1 grade to 5th grade). Do the kids find it amazing or don't they really understand what is going on? Thanks! |

Hojeesum,
I did a wonderful book test as part of a show for my daughter's grade five class. My daughter says kids still talk about it (two month later). Mentalism for ten year olds is possible. My son is 6. He wouldn't appreciate it the same way. Cheers - El Lamo

I sometimes throw in Deja Zoo by Pat Smith. It goes over very well and I usually do it with a parent and it gets their attention as well. Kids seem to like it and I really aim it at the 8 to 12 year old kids. I have played it to adults before and they seem to enjoy it also.

Thanks for the reminder. Cheers - El Lamo

I use Sammy Smith Sketch-O-Matic and it goes down very well. Younger children love the by play with the funny faces.

Oh, Don't forget the classic cube. Inside is a die or smaller cube with symbols on it.

I have used Mental Epic (can be themed for Christmas objects at Christmas time) and also have used Radar Vision by Sammy Smith (before his versions of Deja Zoo and Presents of the Mind came out). I find best use for ages 8+, but have used them in mixed audiences, too.
Really, any tricks with a magician's choice and a revelation is a mentalism effect. I.e., Bunny Tip Top (by Supreme), or Zorita (by Hank Lee). I have used those too. The Gr8 DonaldD.

I use a comical but still amazing mental epic routine with the kids, that does not rely on the board. I just use a clipboard, paper and a marker.
It is a lot of fun because I can personalize it each time for any show that I do and can also vary the length on it as well. I add in some comical mind reading bits and it goes over quite well.

I believe Mark Strivings has a book available on doing mentalism for children.
