I am so lucky to be able to say that Enrique is one of my dearest friends. He hasn't been on the Café in a few years now, but he has continued to forge ahead with now four books for sale on Amazon and a full length documentary film about his approach to Tarot. For the last year he has quietly taken on private Tarot students, most of whom were not mentalists or even readers, but just people wanting to learn to access the visual realm and take a peek through his eyes.
Below is an email I got this morning from him announcing his first offering for mentalists in a few years. It was so understated that I called him to make sure I wasn't making more than there was in what seemed to be implied. But no, what I read between the lines was right. For $50 total, he will customize 5 emailed lessons in the approach to wordplay that he's been refining for years, and he'll show you how to apply it to readings, routines, or just your own process for writing and creating all manner of things. You'll note his email says it's a 5 week course, but he told me he'll work with someone for however long it takes for them to absorb the lesson and do the homework and then absorb his feedback before proceeding on to the next lesson. If you've ever read and loved any of Enrque's earlier Invisible series or the interviews he did, then for fifty bucks how could you not want to jump down that rabbit hole and see the world through his eyes as you create your own wordgames and discover how YOU will apply them to YOUR routines. I'm available if you have any questions, but better yet, Enrique's address is at the end of the email, so just ask him. This project is one in a series of many where Enrique is jumping in unmotivated by economics. He's just looking to expand the game like the true artiste that he is. In fact when we had lunch less than 2 weeks ago and he told me he was wanting to do this, since he doesn't want to spend time on forums, he said he was not going to put it on any forums. But this afternoon we talked, and I got permission to share it here after all. I signed up this afternoon. If it resonates, jump in. Experience not required. Here's the email from this morning: Dear Bill, how/where are you? My book is finally out, available through Amazon. Look at the info below and share it with anybody you think may find it interesting. Lets get together soon! Eye-Corner press has just published my latest book, LINGUISTICK. http://www.amazon.com/Linguistick-Enriqu......uisticks To the general public this book is intended to look as a collection of poetry containing a selection of the little bits of weekly wordplay I have been sharing with a private group of people since 2010. The discerning mentalist would see that this new book is actually a grimoire, a book of spell(ing)s showcasing a set of strategies to activate the oracular function of language. This idea has been the focus of my work for the last few years. It started out within my work with the tarot and extends the ideas I originally explored in my Invisible series. Now that the book is out, I am offering an a one-on-one e-course, for mentalists only: the Language Oracle The words we use daily are full of messages. He who DIVINES DIVES IN, turning language into a source of in-sight and a-muse- men(t). - A clean way to do short readings that are NOT based on numerology nor linked to any esoteric system or “psychic” premise. - Learn how to read a person's name. - Learn how to find the answer to a question in the question itself. - Use wordplay to spice up any word revelation. - Use wordplay to approach strangers, break the ice and introduce other effects. 5 weekly lessons delivered to your inbox for $50. Already signed up for this, even before I knew all of the details! Enrique iis the single greatest influence in my approach to readings and the chance to be mentored by him directly is such a wonderful opportunity. Can't wait to get started!

Enrique's approach to word play is "charming" in every sense of the word. Prepare to have your mind stretched and any self-imposed limitations deconstructed. And to have a good time in the process.
What Enrique did with the Marseilles Tarot was just the beginning. Watching him expand upon these ideas to use language itself as an Oracle is inspiring. His natural skills as a teacher and the joy he takes in his work will serve his students well. I feel a little jealous of those of you who will discover Enrique's wild talents for the first time! |

It's exciting to see who's commenting so excitedly on this thread. I respect Tom, Andy and Bill enormously. I'm just now wrestling with the first lesson. Fascinating. Challenging, but easier than I thought to start entering the water. Bill, you talk about discovering "Enriques's wild talents." But I'm even more excited that I might discover MY wild talents. I've got an assignment that, on the surface, is very simple and easy. I could knock it off in 20 seconds. But instead, I'm enjoying turning it over in my mind before I respond. (And also rereading the lesson.)

I have now worked my way through the first lesson and have enjoyed my first interchange with Enrique. What can I say except that this is the most exciting opportunity as a reader that I have undertaken in a long time. In his response to some of my questions, Enrique commented 'I am in this for the conversation' and the time he has taken, the presence his answers reflect and the quality of the materials he has already shared make this something unique.
I can already see how my own reading work will be transformed by this course - he is truly a teacher of teachers! |

That's absolutely right, Andy. I saw Enrique yesterday, and he commented on how much he's enjoying your questions.
For the sake of any newbies, I want to add that most people are beginners with regard to actually doing something with Enrique's wordplay. So his invitation is wide open to people who aren't even interested in readings. It is about so much more than readings. I love some of the emails he's sending out when people inquire about lessons. As Dr. Bill said above, it's about finding your "wild talents." I'm more interested to see what it does for my ability to create than readings. |

Thanks Bill - I completely agree. My current frame of reference is as a reader but this work might be better described as a primer for anyone who want to flex their grey matter! It strikes me as a vehicle for creative loosening of the paradigms. I think it was Kafka who said that poetry is the axe which breaks open the frozen seas within our minds - this for me is a similar process. It is an invitation to play, explore words and our relationship with them. Come on in - the water is actually lovely and warm!

And, even before you sign up, if you'd like to ask Enrique a question about the course, just email him at enrique.eenriquez@gmail.com It makes sense that his love of wordplay would be reflected by having a course that is taught through written conversations. In an era of audio and video conversations, all of the incredibly in depth interviews that Enrique became famous for conducting were conducted exclusively through emails. Here's a link for one of the anthologies of those interviews: http://www.amazon.com/EN-TEREX-IT-ENCOUN......enriquez |

Well, I've just reached the end of my 5-week correspondence with Enrique and my head is spinning.
This was the best $50 I have spent in a long time. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to exchange emails with Enrique and I'm sorry it's coming to an end! His approaches and ideas for analysing letters and 'derailing' words to find their hidden meanings are absolutely inspired. (Inspired - the 'I' linking the practical and the personal, directly connecting cerebral, intellectual intangibles and earthy, real-world pragmatism while the 'd' reaches back into past, drawing on experience to fuel the vertical leap) The five lessons, and the email exchanges that go along with them have been stimulating, surprising and exciting. Enrique has broadened my intellectual horizons - I have a copy of Alfred Jarry's "Exploits and Opinions of Dr Faustroll" on order from Amazon as we speak. I find myself playing word games for my own amusement and discovering interesting quirks in the names of people I encounter everyday. I am certain that name deconstruction will become a central pillar of my readings over time. It is certainly a risk to share this type of material with people (especially magicians and mentalists). There's no effect or method. Quelle horreur! Most irregular! Some will 'get it', some won't. But given everything he has taught me, it shouldn't be surprising that someone with "ri(s)que" repeated twice in his name is willing to take a chance. This is not simply an ebook or a series of texts for you to read. It is an interactive experience and a chance to bounce ideas off one of the most creative readers and mental performers working today. Enrique is responsive and willing to share, explain and explore ideas. He is offering a kit of tools to help us "TUNe IN" to our "INTUitioN", to see the meanings hidden in the everyday and to read people as though they are words (and perhaps even words as though they are people) - without props and systems and esoteric nick-nacks. These lessons won't be for everyone, but for those who enjoy Enrique's poetic and playful approach they will be worth their weight in gold. Highly recommended.

Matcult's review is excellent and reflects my experience of the last five weeks perfectly. When I signed up for the course I expected a weekly lesson and perhaps one or two brief communications - what I enjoyed was an ongoing and in depth dialogue with a man who has managed to straddle the world of mentalism and readings without compromising either his integrity or his potency as a reader and performer. Enrique's conversation is like being plugged into an inspiration engine!
Yes I have learned strategies and practical methods for using a person's name, or indeed any written text, as a vehicle for offering poetic and engaging readings but this has become almost a byproduct of what I really gained from our interactions. As a direct result of my work with Enrique, I have visited the Tate Modern to see the work of Lawrence Weiner, ordered and consumed books on the Oulipo and surrealist movements and even discovered the mysteries of Norwich cathedral - a place I have visited almost daily for 15 years without noticing something that one of the lessons on the 'rebus' revealed to me. In other words, wordplay is the tool focused upon, but the course is about polishing our perceptual filters, waking up to the world around us and daring to recognise that reading and readings can be an act of poesis - a recurrent theme in the lessons offered is seeking opportunities to create surprise and delight - this course has been a source of both in abundance and I would encourage anyone to leap at the opportunity if Enrique ever decides to offer this unique opportunity again! |
