What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Now days it's hard to find anybody that knows the game I guess if you play Hearts on line it's still the same Idea you have to get tricks and pick trump but it's not the same as when you're hanging out with your buddies, you know you're partner well and are able to work well together. Ahhh the good ole days. |

Yeah, that's a lot like spades too with the partnership factor. Good fun.

I was finally glad to see cribbaged mentioned. I learned it from my Dad, some of my greatest memories. I thought it was only popular here in New England, especially Maine.

Cribbage is still widely played in certain areas. Around here, for example, I often see a game taking place in local taverns.

Years ago when I worked oil, I could always stop in a gas plant for a cup of coffee and a game of crib with the operator. Good times.

The Klondike app on my Iphone can be set to always deal a winnable setup, but it does not guarantee you will win.
I played a hand of Hearts on top of Mt. Baldy at Philmount Scout Camp in New Mexico. Lately I have been an Angry Birds fan!

Classic boardgame: Chess, though I still don't get algebraic notation so I was totally lost when Magnus was posting last week.
Boardgame other than Chess: Talisman. Cards: Poker, but I LOATHE Hold' Em and other community cards games. I love Draw and Stud. Black Jack is a very close second. PC games: Turn Based Strategy: Galactic Civilations II: Twilight of the Arnor MMO: Tie between Guild Wars 2 and Star Trek Online Traditional RPG: Neverwinter Nights Action RPG: Torchlight II. (Diablo III is biggest disappointment in the genre and perhaps the history of PC gaming!) Sports (simulation): Tie between Out of the Park Baseball 2013 and Baseball Mogul 2013. Each of these allows you to replay any baseball season from 1871 to the present. I am replaying the 1908 season managing the Pirates in both. The AI in the programs is very VERY good. |

So nobody remembers Mumblety-Peg? (actually, when we were kids we called it "numbly peg.") It's an old game and is even mentioned in "Tom Sawyer."
Or have knife tossing games fallen out of favor? |

Every cub scout in NYC knew how to play mumblety peg when I was growing up. It was also a great way to ruin the edge of a nice pocket knife.
Marbles was another old game that I doubt kids play anymore. And collecting them was as much fun as playing the game.

You might throw the knife into the ground by the blade to make it stick, for instance, and if the other guy's didn't stick, he'd get a letter. Every failed trick brought you closer to spelling out PEG. We'd put a twig in mud, with maybe 1/4" sticking up, and whoever spelled out "PEG" first had to get the twig out of the ground with his teeth.

I also like chess but not at tournament level or anything but decent.
Also Yahtzee, Rummicube and Stratego... (remember that one)? Computer games I play are Diablo 3 and WoW and started Skyrim. Glen
