I do not own the 5 card opener, was very interested in the release of the 5 card box. Bill sent a teaser email about its release with his normal 24hour period to purchase.
I would have purchased this, but like others have said, it is quite a bit overpriced. Confused too, usually with Bills 24 hr promo it disappears instantly when time is up. This was not the case here. Wonder if it was left up because response was so good, or if it was bad. Time will tell. |

I went to purchase this after the 24 hour sale and found it was sold out. I emailed Bill and I got a message from his shipping coordinator saying that they had sold out during the 24 hour sale and actually oversold several of them because of the rush of sales. They're not getting any new boxes until September 30th. I'm definitely going to get one then. I'm kicking myself now for not jumping on the sale of these. I have a number of shows this month that this would have been perfect for.

I ordered this right away and already have it in hand. Actually, I bought this and then two days later it was here! This is a really terrific prop! It is well made and Bill talks on the DVD about how to take care of the prop so it will last a long time. It is supposed to look like a cardboard box (although it is not made of cardboard) - for those of you who say it is too expensive for what it is! OK, it is not the cheapest trick item to come out this year, but for those of you who are performing regularly, the price will likely not be an obstacle simply because you already know the value of something that you really will add to your act. If you are more of a hobbiest, then 'ya this is too much for you. Then again, most of the better items will be too expensive for most of the magic hobbiest'. If you perform the five card opener, you really should consider this. Then again, as another has already written, I hope you do not buy this - for obvious reasons! For Bill Abbott's benefit, I sort of hope you make the plunge!

Possibly the only reason I didn't buy this was that because it looks like cardboard, I thought it WAS cardboard and therefore too much money for the prop itself. So you're telling us it in fact isn't cardboard but just looks like it. Does this mean it is in fact a much more robust material just made to look like cardboard?

On the DVD that comes with 'the box', Bill Abbott refers to this box as being made our of "fiber-board". This is relativley 'robust'. This is not the same material that a box at the grocery store is made of. If you take care of this prop, and Bill tells you how to do just that, it should last you for a very long time. I went to a local electronics chain store and purchased an awesome padded bag with a zipper on it that was made for a portable DVD/Electronics item for just $10! The bag is a perfect fit for the box and even has a slot where the cards for this trick fit perfectly inside!!

I love Bill Abbott's magic effects! I own the 5 card opener, the Thing, and several of his DVDs. I won't be buying the five card box because I think it is way over priced. I might have considered $100 tops, but this is too rich for my blood. I don't see the value!

I had a chance to play with this a few weeks ago when Bill was in town. This thing is great! It 'looks' cheap, but it isn't; it feels well built and very sturdy. Not entirely exactly what it's made from, but it definitely 'feels' pro. The gaffs work flawlessly. There isn't really much to them, but they work much better than I could have cobbled together on the cheap.
And I love the effect. I think it is the PERFECT finale to the 5 Card Opener. It's logical (especially with Bill's patter), surprising, plays big and packs small; it has all the earmarks of a Bill Abbott routine. What more can I say? If you do the 5 Card Opener, this is a no brainer. As far as price goes... Again, it's a well built unit and a well structured routine, if you work this pays for itself immediately. Worth the investment to workers for sure. Sf |

I received mine a few days back- I can tell you that it does look like a 'cheap prop' in the sense that it's supposed to look like a 12 year old made it. And that goes well with the story and patter Bill uses. I just have a hard time picturing the box sitting on stage before the show even starts, and people have already judged me based on the 'cheap looking box' - they don't know (yet) it's supposed to look like a 12 year old made it. I'm not sure how to combat this.
with that said, it is quite well made. There's no way I could have made something better than this on my own. Even if you could, it'd take you time and energy and money to find out what works best and how it should go together. |

Maybe drape a large silk over it? That way you don't have to move it - just whip off the silk when it's time.

I think this is so brilliant and I would have gladly paid even more for it. I spoke with Bill personally and cant wait to get it. I understand some of folks' concerns over the price but this is an invest that will pay big dividends for pros. I love it.

I used the five card box this weekend at the old west festival for six shows and it worked great. It really enhanced the routine, especially when the cards disappeared. A few kids thought they were in the table. I heard them whisper that. Bill suggests using a flat based table which I will next weekend.

Recieved my box the other day and I can say like every other product I've purchased from Bill this is great. Well made and appears very durable. Can not wait to work it into the routine, I've had lots of success with the 5 card opener and this ending will be perfect. Thanks Bill!

I am on the fence with this one.
Still cannot tell from the above posts, what this box is made out of. Fiber Board? What is that? It looks like corrugated cardboard. I have no doubt this will play big. He seems to already have good sales.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.
