I believe it was Jim Steinmeyer who has said to seek inspiration from things like furniture. The scale and familiarity can be great inspiration for the illusionist or designer.

I came across this project, and although not an explicit illusion, I think there's some great design and implementation here.

Enjoy!

The first comment on that page really is accurate:

"The fact that the sofa has been engineered to be composed of magnetically joined modules is almost as astonishing as its ability to balance. This is a really elegant and beautiful project."

Well said.

The hours that it must have taken to build this thing would be incredible. I am unsure how to react. Am I amazed at the precision of the final product? Perhaps impressed by the tenacity of the engineer/artist? Or am I appalled at what must have been done to a 170-year-old couch to turn it into a novelty piece?

Talk about mixed emotions.

Maybe that's the kind of reaction/emotions the artist wanted?

That's an excellent point. It made me feel many things simultaneously and reflect on it. Well done!
