Edshern: very nice. My daughter (with a tiny bit of help from me) is developing a nice 75G hex marine tank. Love the colours.

I gave all my smaller fish away awhile back. But I got a Jack Dempsey yesterday,
don’t know how that’s going to work out. ![]() I only have a 40 gal tank, but will upgrade if it works out. Tom

Ed, that is a beautiful tank. I love aquariums (as does your cat, apparently!). I find them to be very relaxing. We always had them when I was growing up. I have not had one since college, as I found them to be more work than I liked (in order to keep it in the condition I preferred, anyway).

The closest I come to an aquarium these days is watching "Tanked" on Animal Planet. I had afresh water tank long ago but like Starrpower, found they were more work than I was willing to handle. I couldn't even imagine the work involved in a salt water tank.
Ed, your reef tank is beautiful. |

Yup, they do take some upkeep, but to say it's 'work' ain't right.
I like taking care of my tanks. It's a hobby, & like any hobby takes some time. I guess the difference is I can step away from my magic hobby anytime. Anything alive add a level of responsibility as part of the hobby. Whether it's dogs, cats, bunnies or birds. PS- you only see the tip of the iceberg when you see the finished tank. That thing is circulating 600 gallons per hour, down to the basement, through a 'sump' system and filters before making the return to the tank upstairs. I also need to make synthetic ocean water in the basement. As soon as it becomes 'work' I'm having fish sticks for dinner. |

Hey fellas! Thread revival time! How are all your aquariums doing?
I am in a new home now and just started my very first salt water aquarium. I'm so excited. Who are the salt water experts here? (I need advice). And I still want to hear all about your freshwater tanks! |

Glad you brought this back up. Right after the last post (July 2015) I got 4 Australian Rainbow and 2 Cory Catfish. Still have those that are doing well. The Rainbow are fairly large now, about 5” They grew larger than expected. Been thinking lately about swapping out again. I really want a tank full of small fish, just don’t know what type.
I have half way thought about salt water but haven't researched it enough to decide. Still got a lot to learn. Tom
