Nice fishing and magic story Daryl.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Awesome stories so far guys. Figured I would jump back and share a photo from last years flounder season.. well they are open all year but it's easiest in the winter months when they are heading out the inlets to spawn. This was last January with my uncles and I.

I grew up fishing all the time. Nowadays it seems like I', so busy in the spring, summer and fall that I'm mostly relegated to doing most of my fishing through the ice. Which is fine, ice fishing is awesome but I'd like to be able to get more open water fishing in as well.

If I knew how to post photos I would post a few!
Funny thing about fish pictures. I am a gorilla. I am 6'4" and over 250lbs. My dad was similarly gorilla-ish. When I was about 15 he taught me how to take pictures with fish! Seems dumb but if you are this size, fish LOOK SMALLER! People will see you in pictures of fish and tell you that you are telling lies about size. It is about holding the fish as far away from your body as possible. It also works for smaller or normal size people but must be done for big guys. Just my fishing tip of the week.

An old trout fishing guide in Montana taught me that back in the 80s when I took up fly fishing. Of course an eighteen-inch rainbow trout is a monster on a fly rod, but it isn't such a monster in photos. Unless you hold it in your hands with your arms fully extended, revealing as much of the fish as possible and not cupping it with your hands. As for posting pics in here, it's relatively easy and Marlin1894 actually put me onto it a year or so back. PM me if you want instructions.

I was fishing with my dad in Illinois on the Chain of Lakes and we were just at the end of the day fishing for Bluegill. I am not on an ultralight and I get a pretty good Gill on and suddenly this thing starts to run like a Tuna! I mean it is stripping line like I can't believe. So I spend 45 minutes with this thing. Thought the pole was going to snap. Well after 45 minutes I see a Northern Pike as it gets closer to the boat! Apparently it took the Gill while I was reeling it in. So my father gets the net, we have about a 3 foot Northern as opposed to a pretty good size Bluegill! NICE. Soon as we get it near the boat it SPITS OUT THE BLUEGILL!!!!!!! Swims away and I swear gave me the finger.

Great story Danny! Yeah that Northern gave you the finger alright. That's a really great story. Similarly, though not as spectacular, my wife and I were fishing on a head boat in Florida years back and we were fishing for Yellowtail; not huge fish. But there were so many barracuda in the water, virtually every single Yellowtail boated was chewed in half by the cudas. No one caught any Yellowtail that day, nor barracuda for that matter. One guy managed to haul in a large king mackerel in the twenty pound range. But that was it.
I like fishing ultra light too. Bluegills and other panfish are a blast on light tackle and fly rods. Now, for some great fishing pics, check this out.....it's only two and a half minutes but great stuff. http://www.youtube.com/embed/nA3LtXnNIto......embedded

I just went fishing in Playa del Carmen Mexico.
Tough day. Rain and crappy. Caught literally nothing. Not even bites. The whole time the captain keeps telling us stories of other people he took out who caught fish. I guess thinking it helped LOL. Finally he takes us to this spot where we throw over a hook with a small bait on it and we try to catch fish smaller than the bait! The cool part was feeding them to the Pelicans.

Like the old saying goes, a bad day on the water is better than a good day at the office......and it's also fun feeding the birds on the way back in....with whatever you can toss up to them as they follow the boat.

I haven't had much time to get out and when I've had time it's been too dang cold to get out on the hard water. But we have a window tommorow where it might get to the high 20's for a day before it drops back down to single/negative digits. Picked up a dozen large shiners and gonna see if I can nab some pike tomorrow. If I catch any decent sizers I'll post a pic.

My son, Brother and myself, chatered a boat out of Newport on the coast, on New Years eve day. We had a pretty good day. Ended up with 17 sea bass, 3 good size Ling Cod and to top it off, we got 17 Dungoness crab. The most important part is we had a ton of fun!
