Balducci is, of course, correct. Previously, the only way you could do that was to hit "enter" a dozen or so times and then add a final line at the bottom. Now, no such final line appears to be required, as balducci's and my last post illustrate. And this one, too.

Maybe I am wrong but I've always thought that each enter equaled one line of space up until you hit submit.
Yes it could be abused. But then the mod's can abuse back if caught doing it for no reason. Tom

That's correct. It always has been that way. But I did a test with an earlier post- I added a bunch of spaces as before and hit submit. The spaces were all there. I then hit "edit," did nothing but hit "submit" again and this time the post appeared without the spaces. Tried it again on the edit function and this time added the blank lines again. But they did not show up when I went back to the post.

Hello all. Yup, we had "issues", and all of them that have been discussed here were found.
The clock issue wasn't because of server time, that was because the new version of PHP we're running requires a time zone setting when the older server didn't. I wasn't aware of that at first but was told about it and took care of it. The "whitespace" (repeated spaces or carriage returns) isn't any different than before. We're still using the trim() function to strip whitespace (spaces) at both ends of any text element. Trim doesn't remove carriage returns though, that's still the same too. There were other things as well, such as editing posts or profiles. And, yes, I did work about 12 hours straight on getting the Café transferred and corrected, but a lot of that time was spent trying to get the database migrated without glitches. That process failed four times because it's so big. I finally "cheated" by using a method that's not exactly what one would do, but it's the only thing I thought would work, and it did. No data loss at all. After that it was taking care of bugs, and there were plenty. I got the big bugs taken care of first so peoplle could post new topics, reply, etc. The smaller stuff was done late Sunday night by my wife Mary. There may still be a few bugs floating around, but we'll just call in the exterminator when the time comes.
Somebody kick me off the computer, will ya?

That's what I thought.

Please know that all your efforts are deeply appreciated by those of us who use the Café. Many thanks, and if we ever meet, I owe you and Mary a stiff drink. Or three.
