Not sure. The ace hitting a 31 for two and being in a straigh eight would be pretty good I think. (Sorry I had to do that. I love cribbage. ) You are right as you said "not necessarily".

Danny brings up a good point. I think in the spirit of equality, every card should be a 7.

LobowolfXXX, I imagine you'll be getting a lot of flak from the sixes and eights about that comment.

We get cards in Costco equal reds and blacks.
My partner (who used to be great at breaking in cards) no longer likes to break in cards. So... I practice a lot with both and pass them on to my partner if they aren't dear to me as they break in. Those that feel good during the practice sessions I keep and move through the stages of life for a deck. I used to really prefer blue cards but once you break them in, if they are good cards (and they don't all feel the same) red and blue are both nice. The difference is good because you can tell one deck from another and it is a difference that a spectator can see unlike, celo. wrap or not, top tags torn or not, worn box or new etc… The world doesn't seem as red OR blue as when I was in my 20s. -Mary Mowder |

WOW Mary
I did not expect to read a scientific analysis of cards magic here. To me they all feel the same, and after a few shows I load them up into my card fountain, and shoot them across a dance floor at a cub scout banquet. The chicken sword just fits my personality, and I do it as often as I can. Who am I kidding I would do the chicken sword for free in my living room if my wife would let me.

Speaking of cards, what are all the different decks I see now. Some of these guys posting pictures of decks,
including Steve Brooks, must have a house full of em. Is deck collecting the big thing now? Tom

I don't mean red cards feel different from blue cards.
I mean there is a lot of variation in how the decks feel in general. Some are wonderful. Some are flimsy and papery, some are crisp and "clicky". I'm not just talking about the changes caused by weather. I'm talking about the cards themselves. That variation has a lot to do with whether I want to pick up the cards or leave 'em lay. If you don't feel the difference Al, you may be (dare I say it?) Insensitive. Yep Al, You and "Chicken Sword" would seem a match made in heaven. LOL -Mary Mowder |

Tom
I have a room in my house that has costumes, props, books, DVD's and my computer in it. If I had 1/10 the cards that Steve Brooks has posted on facebook my wife would ask me to move long ago. I'm thinking that Steve brooks has more that one room full of just cards at his house. I am honored to be one of the lucky magicians to be on Marc DeSouza's email list and I go to lectures at Casa DeSouza often. Marc has a magic museum and magic theater attached to his house, and I always go there a half hour early just to browse around. Mary I'm a juggler who has bumps, bruises, dry skin, and broken fingernails all the time.

Quality control is certainly not what it once was. Wide variations in decks fom thickness to margins on the borders.
Glad none of that ever mattered to me.

If you look at the letters in "die" you will note that the are adjacent to the letters in "for," which is what I thought I typed, not realizing that my fingers had shifted on position on the keyboard. Red cards are, IMO, better for palming because the color isn't as noticeable if there's a crack between your fingers. |

That just reminded me- My favorite bike when I was a kid some fifty-five years ago was my red Schwinn three speed. The playing card backs didn't matter as they were just clipped to the spokes so I could pretend it was a motorcycle.

If I'm in a red state I go with red. If I'm in a blue state I go with blue. If it's a toss up state I take whatever I have more of or take the cheaper one.
