I have been performing the compressed with my changes to it as a builder for 15 or so years now..
My prop was built by Owen Redwine and rebuilt by me to do the things that I wanted it to do..
Daniel Summers prop..

Got my moneys worth out of this baby..

Let me preface by saying that this is in no way snark on my part - it's an honest query.
I've never understood what's amazing about this "illusion". I put the word in quotations because, to my mind, there is no illusion, really.
I have no hands-on experience with this apparatus, but I think I've a fairly informed idea of what's taking place. However, if I was a layperson viewing this, I think I'd arrive at a very simple conclusion in my mind that, while not likely correct, would satisfactorily solve what appears to be a non-problem in the first place. It just doesn't look impossible. I'm of the opinion that Andre Kole's "Squeezebox" is much more deceptive and illusory.

Anyone else share this opinion?

And, Taylor, this isn't commentary on your presentation. Just an observation I've had about this piece since I first saw it years ago.
It's all in the reflexes.

No worries..

I think that this is right up there with the origami as for being one of the top two foolers in magic.

it is completely see thru with no mir---- or bl--- --- and truly fools the mess out of the audience..

it is built so very deceptive..

I have performed it for so many years that I'm personally sick of it..
but it is an audience favorite.

I have made many changes to the original model and how it works..

mine is the only one to wear the head can drop

and I don't use the gears to crank up and down

I'm the only guy to do the sucker effect at the begging where she looks like she is just squatting.

in fact.. I have tried to make my whole routine about them thinking they know how it works until the final drop..

I would disagree in the event that I think this is much harder for a lay person to figure out than the squeeze box.

because this is completely see thru as mentioned..

that one is easier to figure out in my opinion..

The compressed is over done though. just like the origami.

that is why I should take them both out of my show in the very near future.

the twister is another one that must go away in my show.. I'm very sick of that one.

My goal is to replace all that stuff with originals,

but great originals are very far and in between.

Thanks

Taylor

I have to agree with Taylor, as much as I hate performing an illusion that everyone is doing, it is a crowd favorite. I perform it nightly and it always gets a good reaction. It is extremely well designed and built.

I won't argue with results, but I am curious if anyone shares my opinion. To me, it looks neither impossible nor amazing.
It's all in the reflexes.

I think it is a real fooler. Taylor, I wouldn't take it out of the show.

Well, it fooled me the first time I saw it! I like Taylor's presentation - I especially like the fact that he doesn't move the prop around and show it from side to side. As far as being over-done: that's debatable too. The percentage of people who see a magic show once a year is very small - smaller still is the ones that go to a show where the performer does "compressed".

At the end of the day, I'm a business man.

You must not always do what you love.. It must be what the audience likes.
Same goes with music.. We gave my show a facelift this season with music.. Some of the stuff, I prefer the old music.. But the audience loved all of the new stuff.
They say that it is new and up to date and hip...

That is good to hear.. but I still like the old music better..

I ask everyone that leaves the show what there favorite illusion?
everyone gives me a different answer.

We do 30 routines in two hours..

A lot of in 1 routines in the show..

Most people really love the in one bits..

The illusions.
they seem to like the big stuff the most.

my audience dismemberment gets some of the best results, because it was a girl from the audience and neither the girl nor the audience has a clue how it's done..

Really educated people like the smaller magic..
They like my newspaper tear with the milk added to it that I do..
the nest of boxes
mental epic
sucker egg trick
my version of baby prediction etc..

this season.. people loved the double levitation, Eclipse, Vortex.. my appearing moto .. the Nasscar and snowing the most..
other than the audience dismember always gets talked about..

and my version of audience dismember always makes the front page of the newspaper.. EVERYTIME

I'm sick of that though..

I now have a massive show.. that is the illusion that the reporters always pick for the main photo

Next time a reporter comes out to do a review.. I'm leaving it out of the show that day..

I told the last reporter that they couldn't use that illusion in the paper..

LOL
