So I was bored and came up with this, thought I'd share.
it's a response to when someone challenges you to read his mind. (after the show) Didn't test it, not sure if it works or not, posting it so maybe someone can do something with it normal responses to this situation that I know are just ways to tell the person to **** off in a clever way. This should in theory make someone convince himself that you can indeed read minds without actually accepting his challenge. After a show Doushe: Hey, read my mind! Mentalist: (assumes a mind reading pose and concentrates for about half a second and says) can't do it (in a bored monotone voice) Doushe: You didn't even try, c'man read my mind! Mentalist: (again in a bored monotone voice) sorry can't you're just to hard to read. Doushe:Yes you can, you just don't want to. And that's it

There are several options to this challenge. I like the option of I can't read minds but I can sometimes get focused thoughts. Have them think of a number from one to one hundred. Then simply guess. Sometimes you get close enough that it is a hit. If you are wrong, ask what the number is, then retrieve a sealed envelope that is opened. Inside the envelope is a piece of paper that reads that you will be challenged from a tough spectator that will think of number ?.
The method should be obvious. Jamie

Nice idea but wouldn't work for me, I actually do read minds in general by just doing a r*****g on them (not sure if it needed to be *out but one can't ever be too carefull)

There are other possibilities:
I charge $1000 per session for that kind of private work. Please call my secretary and make an appointment. I can read your mind like a book, but I don't read THOSE kind of books. (If he's with other people) I'm picking up something about an affair you had...are you sure you want me to share this? |

Btw, some people ask you to read their mind becouse they are exited by the fact that you can do it, in that case I sometimes do read their mind, and if I don't want to I can politely refuse. Special lines should be used only for the clear "******bags".

Someone who challenge you to read their mind is not IMHO someone who will be convinced you can read mind because you said you won't...
If you want to convince such person, you have to do a reading of some sort, there's no way around. Accept the challenge, but not it's terms. YOU set the rules, and there's always a quick "something" to do, that is just the beginning of a longer "something else" you don't have time to do.

I never give into challenges, but if they ask nicely than that's a diffrent story. And also I think that people like that actually on some level belive you can read minds but just want to show off in front of their friends, or actually want you to read their mind but think that their too cool to say that they belive you. That's why I though that text might work

I'm sure this is nothing new, but this works for my personality:
Spec: If you can really read minds, then what am I thinking right now? Me: (Concentrate and then smile) You're thinking that I can't really read your mind. Of course, as a total newbie, I haven't encountered the same kinds of situations as experienced mentalists, so I can't say for certain how this would work for you. Jon Barr |

MENTALIMS 101: Learn how to do Muscle Reading and you can, on the spot, meet this sort of challenge. Too, Alain Nu made me aware of the H. Arcana material now available through Jerome Finley's G Q&A II that would allow you to do exactly what we're discussing.
Anyone that's seriously studied Mentalism can deal with the schmucks, it's not that hard. But, you have to think like a Psychic and be willing to stoop to whatever low you must in order to make the "challenge" nothing more than waving off a pesky fly. |
