Hi guys! I've been doing card magic off and on for a year or so, just to entertain myself and my friends / coworkers, and I think I'm at the point where I'd like to start actually spending money to improve my knowledge and skills. I'm good enough at most of the basic moves to perform them without my audience seeing, but I am by no means proficient, and really want to perfect what I know, and expand my sleights. What would be some good DVDs for me to get started on in this category?

If you really want to learn from DVD's (why not books?????) then Card College by Roberto Giobbi would be a good start. He'll teach you how to handle a pack of cards at the beginning up to a good number of basic sleights you simply MUST know and master. Along the way he'll teach you some decent card trick. From there you could start looking to something more advanced as Harry Lorayne or John Bannon's products (both books and videos).
Mind you that the Card College course on DVD covers only the first two volumes of his five volume books series (which I recommend heartedly!!!). mlippo |

Good question, but I personally learn much better from video than I do from books. And thank you for the reccomendation.

Go to http://www.youtube.com/harrylorayneonvideo to see some of the effects/routines you'd learn on my "Best Ever" DVD 4-vol. set. And/or go to my magic site (listed under this post with the word "magic" in it) to learn more about them. I did them JUST FOR YOU!!! (All impromptu, any deck, stuff.)

Daryl's Encylopedia of Card Sleights.
There's also the Card College DVDs.

I would definitely recommend Harry Lorayne's DVDs as well as his books. If you want to do effects that people aren't familiar with, or better yet have never seen before, you need to start reading some books.
Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles Set is also a great place to start. |

How about a different approach. Look up decent card magicians, watch their performances on You tube and then look up their DVD's?
e.g. Darwin Ortiz, Harry Lorayne as mentioned, Lennart Green, Juan Tamariz, Daryl. Also look at my FAQ thread Andy Field has some non copyright stuff for free. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=41&3 Enjoy. |
