Hi!, I want to share with you some thoughts about the Anthony Owen’s Natural Lottery.
The author says that it’s an opening effect because it involves a lot of participants and it’s quick and direct. But in practice I find it VERY STRONG, so I’ve decided to put it nearly the end of the show. I want to know your experience with this, what is the “order number” for this in your show and what other thing you do before and after it? Thanks!.. Lautaro. |

If some of you don't have this effect in your show but whant to share your opinion I'll appreciate that!
Do you think it could be an opener or it´s better to put it near the end? If it could be an opener... what other effects should be following this? Thanks!.. Lautaro. |

I don't think you'll get many responses because:
a) totally dependent on your character and delivery b) a list of effects from other people won't help you! c) no one else is YOU, so as long as it suits you - that's all that matters d) changing the placement just because someone else does it differently isn't a good reason good luck - I'm not being abrupt with my response, just sharing how I see it... visualising it, I would probably want to ask for a single number after 5 different presentations, so the lottery prediction becomes a kind of confabulation type plot instead...but that might be too disruptive...

That could be THE pat template answer for every question. We could all take a break. But what fun would that be. We couldn't make sarcastic remarks, couldn't disparage each other, cut down each other's religion political leaning. There'd be less for a lot of us to do.
No fun. |

Dear IAIN, I wish I could explain better my point. It may be my bad english, sorry for that!
I'm not asking a list of effects for my show because I know very well that it's my job. I'm trying to discuss this topic considering only "the effect" itself and it's "intrinsic strength" in comparison with others. Of course the you can change the impact of each one with the presentation and your character. I find the "Natural Lottery" as a VERY STRONG effect for the audience. It's "degree of impossibility" is higher than other's. I hope It's clear now. |

Hi - yeah, I getcha...no need to apologise!
if it plays as strong for you as you say, then I agree - it should be the last thing you present. At the first mentalists meeting in the uk (Tabula Mentis/Psycrets), Andy Nyman talked about "the carking lot moment", the last thing the people witness should be the thing they all talk about as they make their way back to their cars and go home... for me (and baring in mind I don't perform it) - I think I might feel that it comes across as a little too impersonal in a way - though very impressive... so I would want to make the numbers that people suggest somehow meaningful to each of them...so maybe each number is an age... age when you had your first kiss, fell in love, broke up, got married, had a kid, and so on... so then the metaphor is the real lottery, is that of life itself...a mixture of chance happenings that make sense and make us feel like we have literally won the the lottery because we have found love or achieved something...
