I love this trick so much that it hurts me!
Does anyone know any other method of anchoring the doll?

A pk (super strong magnet) could be another solution, but you have to modify the doll.

I wasn't comfortable with using the given method when I got the doll, but I tried a whole bunch of stuff and none of it did the trick. The thing you're talking about depends on the part of your hand you anchor to. After a while I found that I could use the side opposite the ball of my thumb and now I wouldn't dream of trying any other method. Took a while to get used to, but now it seems easy.
If you had an IT loop around your hand that might work. A square of magic tape seemed to be sort of workable, but I'd persevere with the given method. |

Ted Lesley sent me a version. Send him an email and he'll tell you.

Maybe it's because I'm on the larger side in terms of physical shape, but I've never had a problem with the method. I thought that it would hurt at first, but it's become one of my signature close-up and kids show pieces.

Sorry to be a big nerd and all, but I've never heard of this trick and it sounds interesting. Does anyone have a link to where I can take a look at it and read about it?

I've never performed this, but I've seen it done and I think it's cute in a weird sort of way.

That's the way I like my magic. Cute... in a weird sort of way. Hmmm... perhaps I have a new promo line... with permission.

This effect never seems to fail in reaction for me.
I would stick with its method since you can perform it surrounded out in the open without fear of something being seen. I put the doll right in their hands at the start and ask them what it is. I have yet to have anyone see the gimmick while they were holding it. If you do it properly, it will stand straight up. Do it slow and let them get close. Use a bracelet or ring to drop over it or just wave your hand once over it to show there are no connections. I am always glad when I remember to bring this little guy along since it has a mysterious look and in their mind it is a levitation of sorts. SO it plays bigger. Animation is always exciting for an audience to see. Ok Kiddies, here is some things to note- 1. your gimmick can be adjusted to work better. 2. be mindful of what you are doing and every once in a while if not after every time you used it, wipe it down with alcohol. 3. the gimmick can rust over time and should be cleaned or replaced. Just think of where it goes. Has anyone ever tried the broom version? Someone was selling a Harry Potter version (if I recall) that they made a small witches broom under the same principle. I wonder if anyone tried who has the Doll to know if it plays as strong. I am sure the broom version has some bizzare applications. ( Elf witch) For someone who PM'd me about this gimmick, I accidently clicked DELETE ALL and lost your email. I just wanted you to know I did not ignore you, just lost your email. PM again |

And using Ted's version one could even create new magic, with a bit of "IMAGINATION". My sincere thanks to Ted for his wonderful new method/ creation. AND Quote:

I love this effect, but...I can never seem to get into it smoothly. I also seem to end up looking like I lost a fight with my cat. Ugh.
I need to figure out how I'm mangling this effect, because I really want to use it :/ 252CatScratchFeverWithASideOfTetnus

Find out where it hurts least and gets the best control. Once you find that out, practice loading the effect until you no longer are scrambling and going deep enough to leave marks. |

I love this effect and have numerous items using the method including, pencils, pen, skeleton hand, kewpie doll, straw doll, stick man, etc. They all have different nuances and I need to place them at different positions on my palm to work best. Once you identify the sweet spot the natural lines on your palm provide a great reference point. I have been doing this for 30 years but I found the teaching on the "Haunted Doll" DVD that came with that prop to be the best I have seen. I picked up some nuances that really helped me sell this effect.
You really should feel little to no pain when doing this. Cheers, John |

I have a Collection of such items.
Daniel's plays the Biggest of course. The Rogue 6 Doll is perhaps the most Versatile & can Indeed by handed out. I have a Pet Routine Ive been using for years, it does lend itself to impromptu Amazement. On occasion, I like to Isolate the Animation with a beer Stein covering it.. I also like David Parr's Clever method of having the Spec do something to Assist in the Animation. I took it to Sicily recently where I wore it like a Talisman Necklace. It certainly breaks the language Barrier ! |
