As I asked earlier, where is most of the plastic ocean pollution coming from?
http://www.dw.com/en/almost-all-plastic-......41581484 "Almost all plastic in the ocean comes from just 10 rivers" "But where to start? Well, in fact, that might be an easier decision to make than one would think. It turns out that about 90 percent of all the plastic that reaches the world's oceans gets flushed through just 10 rivers: The Yangtze, the Indus, Yellow River, Hai River, the Nile, the Ganges, Pearl River, Amur River, the Niger, and the Mekong (in that order)." hmmm, most of those rivers seem to have something in common. What might it be? And how many of those "9 billion" that don't want water pollution live near these rivers? |

Where in America are those rivers?

Yes, because treaties between countries like China and the US have never happened before.

hmmm, most of those rivers seem to have something in common. What might it be? They are all in very densely populated third world regions: China, India, Egypt, West Africa, Vietnam. And they all came to Lake Erie to pollute it?

LOL. The false equivalency is the irrelevant comment made about what countries most pollute the oceans.
Guess what? Pollution is caused by the industry of every country. It will take every country working together to do something about it.

Antarctica is losing ice at a staggering rate, dumping about 2 billion tons of ice
into the ocean every year, scientists found in a study published in the journal NATURE, 15 June 2018. It is getting worse. Of the nearly 3 trillion tons of ice lost since 1992, 40% occurred over the past five years. TIME, page 7, 25 June 2018 |

So now we are going to use Time as a scientific journal?

Respecting nature as-is with its forests, desserts, rivers and mountains is an aesthetic choice. Whatever the planet has been doing for the past four billion years has been good enough to get us here. What we do is up to each of us. That includes how we respond to "call to adventure/arms" from charlatans and venal merchants. To be somewhat skeptical is a good thing. In our economy/society - cynical examinations of public matters is also a good thing.
Let's go with Bayesian. Given our long social history of "End is Nigh" pleadings for non-realized causes, what is the probability that this latest is any different?

P (energy company CEOS and flacks lie about the environmental impact of their very profitable products) > P (large majority of scientists are incorrect)

Dear Dannydoyle,
NO. We are NOT going to use TIME as a scientific journal. We are either going to trust TIME's statement of the information contained on Antartica's report in the NATURE or we are not. If we are doubtful we will examine NATURE and other resources. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0179-y https://www.theguardian.com/environment/......ies-show https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/13/clima......ter.html https://www.popularmechanics.com/science......xpected/ https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018......-change/ This is NOT exactly peer review, but it is at least an attempt to learn something new and perhaps valuable. |

Dear Dannydoyle,
Sometimes you can only work with what is available at the moment. It is better to think slowly than quickly. It is not wise to rush to convictions. |
