Yea it's not as if they have all sorts of evidence to go on like the Trump stuff they constantly follow.
The media is famous for only reporting on things with evidence in a non bias way. While I agree John that a random blog post about unpublished research is not great source martial, the idea that somehow that is a bar to the media doing whatever they want is just not been the case of late. All media sorces show and promote their bias now.

In fact, the article makes the exact same point. "Sadly, this is yet another study that the media will, for the most part, ignore. That's especially true since Christy, a scientist with an impeccable reputation, is known for poking holes in the global warming religion's dogma." But what's wrong with a blog post? Would John complain about a blog post about the latest IPCC release? Or is it only blog posts about research that John disagrees with that he turns his nose up against? |

Much like you have no point when you attack the messenger. Unless of course one disagrees with that message then it is perfectly fine. It is only WRONG when OTHER people do it.

The current tropospheric temperature trend from 1979-2016 is influenced by large, natural, interannual fluctuations which if removed reveal a trend about a third less positive than is directly measured (+0.155 down to +0.095 K dec−1 ). This underlying trend is essentially the same as calculated in CM94 (+0.09 K dec−1) when only 15 years were available and who determined the underlying trend at that time needed adjustment I'm no climate scientist, but the article's conclusion appears not to be what RNK claims it to be.

More lies from Magnus the troll.
Both the wattsupwiththat blog and the article have the same posting date. 11-29-2017 Also, Magnus claimed it as unpublished on 12/1 so he had ample opportunity to check if it was published or not. Finally, the article linked to by RNK specifically stated, "And by the way, this is a published, peer-reviewed journal study, not a bunch of estimates from questionable mathematical models that were created to serve a political purpose, not a scientific one.", if he had bothered to read it. |

I have not read the study and I didn't post it. I wasn't commenting on the contents of the study or the article but was commenting on your lies that were an obvious attempt to deflect from the article.

So typical of John. He first doesn't want to discuss the artical because he falsley claims it's about unpublished research. When I point out the lie, he suddenly wants to discuss the article and claims I'm the reason people can't have intelligent discussions.

Back in the day I used to teach exponential functions to my high school students by having them figure out the nice chunk of money they'd have in the bank by saving every year, and earning the magic of compound interest. Well, I had to scrap that lesson over the last few years because the paltry rates available to the average person proved just the opposite--in fact, it was foolish to save, when inflation would just eat up your money's worth over time. Now I teach them exponentials by illustrating just what 24%+ interest on credit cards means...and how long it will take them to pay off their student loans.

Let's say that climate change is a hoax, and we cut down on carbon emissions and pollution anyway. Would that be such a bad thing?
It reminds me of Pascal's wager. "If God exists and you bet that He does not, your penalty relative to betting correctly is enormous. If God does not exist and you bet that He does, your penalty relative to betting correctly is inconsequential." Let's rephrase the wager for the purposes of this discussion: "If climate change exists and you bet that it does not, your penalty relative to betting is enormous. If climate change doesn't exist and you bet that it does, your penalty relative to betting is inconsequential." The potentially infinite loss from betting against climate change if it does exist has to outweigh the small cost of betting on climate change's existence when there is none. Cutting carbon emissions, reducing pollution, reducing waste, transitioning to renewable energy, creating more sustainable cities. These would be beneficial even in the absence of climate change. If climate change does exist, however, and we fail to act, the costs would be enormous. Footnote: The retort of: "but this is all theoretical, climate change needs to be proven" is bound to come up in some form. Not only does this ignore the crux of my argument, it mistakes my lack of evidence as an oversight. I'm not providing evidence because it seems to have no bearing on discussion here. |

Even forget framing it as a wager. My dog knows enough to not dedicate in the house where he lives. Can we please at least be smarter than my dog?
How about framing as a progress idea? Why stay stuck on tech from 100 or so years ago? I can think of many reasons this shouldn't even be an argument. Oh, oh MOST of all I checked, and believe me I Googled the heck out of this. We only have ONE PLANET TO LIVE ON! So how about we don't make it uninhabitable for us? Sure the planet will survive. It will shake us off like a bad flu virus. But WE may not. So how again is that an argument?
